Role Overview: The Business Development Director will lead and drive RAE Corporation's growth strategies through the development of new business opportunities, expansion of existing customer relationships, and identification of new markets. This role is key to enhancing the company's market share, brand recognition, and overall revenue generation across North America and beyond. The Director will manage and mentor the business development team, collaborate with cross-functional departments, and establish strong relationships with end users, consultants, contractors, and other stakeholders.

1. Develop Business Strategies
  • Conduct market research and analysis to identify new business opportunities and potential growth areas.
  • Formulate and implement strategic sales plans to achieve revenue and growth targets.
  • Lead the development of business development initiatives that align with company objectives and market demands.

2. Lead Sales Efforts
  • Cultivate and manage relationships with key accounts, including end users, consultants, contractors, and distributors.
  • Drive sales and market share expansion by identifying and securing new business opportunities.
  • Monitor and report on sales activities, performance metrics, and key account progress.

3. Collaborate Cross-Functionally
  • Work closely with marketing, engineering, production, and other departments to ensure alignment of business development strategies and execution.
  • Coordinate with internal teams to leverage resources, gather input, and ensure timely project execution.
  • Provide regular updates and reports to stakeholders on the progress of business development initiatives.

4. Monitor Market Trends
  • Stay informed about industry trends, competitor activities, and market demands to adjust strategies and maintain a competitive edge.
  • Identify new market opportunities and potential risks to proactively shape business strategies.
  • Develop and maintain a network of industry contacts to keep up-to-date on market changes and trends.

5. Team Leadership & Mentorship
  • Manage and mentor the business development team, fostering an environment of collaboration, innovation, and achievement of goals.
  • Provide guidance, training, and resources to team members to help them meet sales objectives.
  • Conduct regular check-ins and performance reviews to monitor progress and ensure alignment with company goals.

6. Manage Relationships
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, partners, and industry stakeholders to promote long-term business success.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for key accounts and manage all related communications and interactions.
  • Address client concerns, providing timely solutions and maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction.

7. Provide Technical Support
  • Serve as a subject matter expert, offering technical support to customers, sales teams, and distribution networks to help drive product selection, troubleshooting, and application guidance.
  • Collaborate with engineering and product management teams to understand technical capabilities and share this knowledge with customers.
  • Demonstrate and explain the operation and use of products through sales presentations and meetings.

8. Sales Reporting & Analysis
  • Track business development metrics and provide regular reports to the Vice President of Sales.
  • Analyze performance data to identify trends, areas for improvement, and opportunities for growth.
  • Develop and implement action plans based on sales analysis to optimize performance.

9. Travel and Client Interaction
  • Travel to meet clients, attend industry events, and oversee business development activities.
  • Represent the company at trade shows, conferences, and other industry-related events to promote the RAE brand.
  • Provide timely updates from client meetings and travel activities through comprehensive reports.


10. Compliance & Documentation
  • Ensure all activities comply with company policies, industry regulations, and legal requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records of meetings, communications, and sales activities.
  • Complete all required documentation, including sales reports, travel expense reports, and other records, in a timely manner.

Desired Qualifications
  • A four-year post-secondary education in business, air conditioning, refrigeration, or a related technical field. A BSME (Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering) or equivalent industry experience is preferred. Minimum of 5 years in a business development or sales leadership role, with a focus on the HVAC, refrigeration, or industrial markets.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels. Proficient in strategic thinking, market analysis, and customer relationship management. Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and CRM software.
  • Certificates, Licenses, or Training:
  • Valid driver's license. Industry certifications in refrigeration, HVAC systems, or related fields are a plus.
