The Clinical Psychology Ph.D. program housed within the Department of Psychology and Health Studies is undergoing a multiyear expansion to increase its capacity to train Clinical Psychologists to practice in the province. This expansion requires additional training space, faculty, staff, and community supervision opportunities.

Primary Purpose: The Expansion and Practicum Coordinator will divide their time between a) overseeing the coordination and administration of all project details for the ongoing Clinical Psychology expansion and b) overseeing the outreach and administration involved with securing and facilitating external clinical student practicums. Initially expansion coordination will require roughly two-thirds of this FTE, however as the program meets its expansion goals and milestones over time the role will transition towards more focus on the growing need for practicum coordination.

Nature of Work:

The Expansion and Practicum Coordinator will report directly to the Department Head of Psychology and Health Studies, and work closely with the Clinical Psychology Executive Committee, faculty, staff, students, and the Saskatchewan community of Registered Psychologists.

The incumbent will establish and maintain professional relationships with these individuals/groups and align project outcomes with the Department, College of Arts and Science, and USask strategic goals, policies, and procedures. Interaction and communication with USask senior leaders and external stakeholders is expected.

This position requires a breadth of knowledge and experience in university operations and project management. The successful applicant will work collaboratively within a team as well as independently and must have the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment while balancing competing deadlines. The individual must exercise sound judgement and have intermediate level project coordination skills, while demonstrating strong leadership skills such as: respectful communication; collaboration; relationship building; information sharing, and professional judgement.

Accountabilities:

Expansion Coordination
  • Coordinate the preparation of project plans, timelines, deadlines, and monitor progress of all project tasks.
  • Provide coordination and support to all aspects of the Clinical Psychology Expansion Project, including:
    • coordination and management of meetings
    • provide oversight for the facilities renovations and requirements
    • initiate and facilitate required equipment purchasing
    • coordinate personnel hiring,
    • obtain necessary approvals and ensure work is aligned with USask, College of Arts and Science, and Department of Psychology and Health Studies policies and processes, working closely with the Department Head and other College of Arts and Science staff
  • Identify issues that arise and communicate to the necessary leaders, team members.
  • Collaborate with the Dean of Arts and Science and Finance Manager to ensure expansion project is completed within identified budget resources.
  • Communicate with internal and external stakeholders to provide updates, understand current realities, design future state, build commitment and ensure project plans incorporate important perspectives.
  • Continue to monitor and develop the expansion strategy.

Practicum Coordination
  • Build and maintain relationships with Saskatchewan psychologists, helping facilitate connection between the Clinical Psychology team and the Saskatchewan psychology community.
  • Determine availability of clinical placements within Saskatoon and surrounding area.
  • Collaborate with clinical facilities to identify practicum opportunities and facilitate troubleshooting to remove barriers to potential future placements.
  • Work closely with the Directors of Clinical Training (DCTs) to initiate and develop new practicum placement opportunities.
  • Collaborate with the Saskatchewan College of Psychologists, and the Saskatchewan Psychology Association, the Saskatchewan Health Authority, and other key stakeholders as identified, to facilitate and advocate for clinical practicum placements.
  • Prepare documents and engage with supervisors to ensure understanding of Clinical Psychology's policies, procedures, placement objectives, and evaluation processes.
  • Collaborate to ensure that policies and procedures related to clinical education are consistently applied and enforced.
  • Work closely with the DCTs, placement supervisors, and students to facilitate the placement matching process.
  • Maintain communication with students and supervisors throughout the practicum placements, working with the DCTs as needed to troubleshoot and manage any potential conflicts.
  • Assist with monitoring year-to-year clinical hour needs of students in the program
  • Oversee the administrative processes regarding practicum onboarding procedures, reporting of practicum hours, and completion of student and placement evaluations.

Education: A Bachelor's degree is required. A graduate degree is preferred. A combination of education and experience will be considered.

Experience:
  • Demonstrated experience in project coordination/management is required.
  • Minimum 2 years' experience working in a post-secondary or professional setting is required.
  • Experience in a healthcare discipline, particularly psychology, is considered an asset.
  • Administration and/or professional leadership roles/responsibilities is an asset.
  • A good working knowledge of University policies and procedures is an asset.

  • Demonstrated competency in the areas of strategic planning, project management, and organization.
  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines: effectively managing work under mutually agreed schedules and timelines is essential
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively; exercising personal initiative and good judgement while effectively coordinating work with colleagues and peers is essential.

  • Strong analytical skills; with the ability to research and effectively present information
  • Effective interpersonal skills and practiced ability to work with decision-makers to achieve solutions to unique and complex problems

  • Strong attention to detail
  • Highly proficient computer skills (word processing, spreadsheets, database management, communication programs, etc.) are essential.
