Position:
The Fabrication Manager manages and supervises all aspects of fabrication for BluePrint Automation at its location in South Chesterfield, VA (BPA-VA). Fabrication currently exists of saw, laser, press-break, welding, milling, lathe, router, paint shop, and supporting production technologies.

The Fabrication Manager plans projects, considering budget and workforce; selects people; delegates tasks and responsibilities to others; provides coaching and feedback; rewards and motivates; builds relationships with others at all levels within the organization; makes time available for subordinates (at both leaders' and employees' request); achieves results through others; is responsible for the success of direct reports and for the team overall as well as visibly demonstrates integrity.

This position functions semi-autonomously and supervises all employees in Fabrication. The successful candidate will carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities may include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership, training, mentoring, and coaching to all employees in Fabrication.
  • Plan and manage all transactions and work orders from engineering release to providing fabricated components.
  • Creation and management of shop travelers (routers)
  • Grow efficiency by reducing set-up times, achieving a high level of flexibility.
  • Develop the production technologies in close coordination with the Supply Chain Management Initiative which develops vendor-based production capacities and technologies.
  • Increase the quality of the components produced.
  • Set expectations for the daily output per work cell and hold team members accountable for their daily output.
  • Lead the 5s initiatives in Fabrication and keep the workplaces orderly at all times.
  • Build and maintain a preventative maintenance program for all machinery in Fabrication.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications
  • A minimum of a High School Diploma (or equivalent) and 10 years of relevant supervisory experience in a manufacturing/engineering environment is required. However, a combination of experience and/or education will be taken into consideration.
  • Demonstrated ability to direct and manage a workforce in 2 shifts.
  • Demonstrated ability to make decisions, solve problems, exercise good judgment and flexibility, and maintain budgets and schedules.
  • High result orientation, cost sensitivity, and commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Highly developed technical aptitude and ability to look out for and implement new fabrication technologies.
  • Ability to manage fabrication outsourcing and the corresponding supplier pool.
  • Highly developed customer and goal orientation.
  • A hands-on mentality, leading by example, and a dedication to excellence and quality.
  • Understanding of fabrication organizations, work order-based transactions, and work order planning as well as inventory management required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent computer skills required, experience with MRP systems (preferably Epicor) and Microsoft applications.
  • Ability to interact with clients.
