Mercer University School of Medicine (MUSM) invites applications for a Faculty position in the Pathology department at our Columbus, Georgia campus. This faculty position is full-time and the primary responsibility is medical education. Rank will be determined based on credentials of the final candidate.
Responsibilities:
Mercer University School of Medicine (MUSM), Department of Pathology and Clinical Science Education, is seeking a highly qualified Pathology medical educator with experience teaching in an integrated pre-clinical medical school curriculum. The incumbent is responsible for upholding the mission of the school and is expected to demonstrate a commitment to excellence in medical education. The position is a salaried, full time (12-month), non-tenure track appointment on our Columbus, Georgia campus. Opportunities to pursue scholarly activity in medical education, biomedical science, and community-oriented research are available. Faculty members participate broadly across the medical school through committee service and continuous quality improvement activities. Academic rank will be determined based on the credentials and experience of the successful applicant.
For over thirty years, MUSM has focused on training medical students to fulfill MUSM's mission of preparing healthcare professionals to meet the primary care and health care needs of rural, medically underserved Georgia residents and communities. Emphasizing interactive and patient-based teaching strategies, Mercer's student-centered faculty equips graduates to be discerning consumers and innovative producers of knowledge across a variety of medical and community settings. Through teaching, scholarship, and service, students and faculty work closely to have local, regional, national and international impact. Qualifications:
- Hold an M.D or PhD degree from an accredited Medical School
- Have significant experience in team-based, problem-based and case-based medical education. Experience teaching pathology, histology or related UME discipline
- Have the ability to work well with other faculty members and with students in small group and large group interactive settings
- Have excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Be proactive, take ownership of assigned responsibilities, including teaching, and work independently to meet deadlines
- Have the ability to work collaboratively in a complex, multi-campus organization
The ideal candidate will have:
- Post-graduate residency training in pathology. American Board of Pathology Certification in Anatomic or Anatomic and Clinical Pathology preferred.
- Experience with innovative learning strategies in undergraduate medical education
- Demonstrated scholarship in a relevant professional field
- Experience developing integrated pathology and medical science curricular and assessment material
- Experience in ongoing LCME accreditation activities and continuous quality improvement
