The Failure Analysis Team's mission is to determine root cause and contributing factors to improve the experience of Tesla's products by reducing field issues, in collaboration with large cross-section of other engineering teams. Engineers and technicians on the team are responsible for a wide variety of vehicle and energy product systems for existing models and models in development. This extremely high visibility individual contributor role requires extensive hands-on work focused on electromechanical failure analysis and root cause activities.
We are seeking an enthusiastic, fast-learning technician who finds enjoyment in understanding how things work and how we can correct and prevent issues from occurring. They will be responsible for assistance with diagnosing electromechanical concerns.
A successful candidate will need to become intimately familiar with various analysis techniques involving non-destructive and destructive techniques. Examples of those include capturing and understanding 2D X-ray data, mechanical sample preparation (e.g. assembly tear down, cross sectioning, basic electrical debug using a multimeter, and documentation of regions of interest on failed samples. They will work alongside experienced engineers while utilizing sophisticated failure analysis tools to identify failure mechanisms observed in engineering, production, and field environments.

Responsibilities
- Support failure analysis activities for electromechanical assemblies with basic failure confirmation/recreation, teardown inspections, documentation while paired with critical thinking to determine failure mechanisms
- Utilizing basic and analytical tools covering various analysis techniques. Examples include hand tools, logging DMM, grinder/polishers, precision diamond saws, 2D X-ray systems, and elemental identification tools
- Documenting the steps through single/multiple sample inspections, replication tests, and teardowns. Examples including use of Word, Excel, project tracking systems such as Jira, visual/optical image capture
Requirements
- College Degree or similar achievement of mentorship or trade schooling certification as a substitute
- 2+ Years of hands-on experience working in an analytical lab, automotive repair, or similar roles highlighting dexterous ability and problem-solving skills
- Proficient at soldering, use of hand tools, basic electrical debug, entry level fabrication
- High level understanding of automotive electromechanical assemblies and their theories of operation highly preferred
- Experience with advanced tools typically involved in electromechanical failure analysis (e.g. oscilloscopes, CAN/LIN tools, tensile testing systems, pressure/leak testers, machine shop equipment.) highly preferred

$28.80 - $56.40/hour + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
