The Chesterfield-Colonial Heights Department of Social Services is seeking an experienced professional to provide leadership and program oversight to the Employment Services team of Family Services workers responsible for an array of Employment services such as Virginia's Initiative for Education and Work (VIEW), Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education and Training (SNAP-ET) and First Choice Employment Center to assist citizens in becoming self-sufficient. We are searching for the ideal candidate who will lead the team using a strengths-based and solution-focused approach in all aspects of leadership and program oversight.

What You Do and How You Do It:

As the Family Services Supervisor I, you will work to coach and train staff to achieve performance excellence; manages change and facilitates adjustments necessary for the team to embrace changes in practice and program policies and procedures. You will assign, review and evaluate staff's work and plans and develop policies and processes that ensure efficient workflow and ongoing program development.

The Family Services Supervisor I reviews and evaluates service effectiveness using data and various program evaluation methods. This includes interpreting policies and programs to other agencies and the public, developing collaborative relationships and resources in the community and applying knowledge of Virginia VIEW Employment Services Program procedures. As the Family Services Supervisor I, you will also assist in budget preparation, monitor program expenditures, maintain records, prepare reports and perform other work as required.

Here's What You Need:
  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in a Human Services field or minimum of a bachelor's degree in any field with a minimum of two years of appropriate and related experience in a Human Services area (Section 22VAC40-670-20 of the Administrative Code of Virginia) required.
  • Considerable experience in assigned program area/human services programs and completion of required training programs required.
  • Supervisory experience or work experience in a leadership role required.
  • Equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities required.
  • Possession of a BSW or MSW degree and a Commonwealth of Virginia Social Worker license preferred.
  • Three years of experience in adult programs preferred.
  • Program specific experience in Virginia public social services preferred.
  • Experience compiling reports, correspondence, narrative of case management and grant proposals preferred.

We're Looking for Ideal Candidates Who Have:
  • Excellent organizational, time management, oral/written communication, interpersonal, public relations and supervisory skills.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply social work principles and Virginia policies in VIEW Employment Services, TANF, SNAP-ET and other applicable programs.
  • Ability to demonstrate exceptional critical thinking and decision-making skills.
  • Skill in operating a personal computer and the associated software and the operation of a motor vehicle.
  • Ability to interpret laws, policies and regulations related to human services.
  • Ability to work outside normal working hours as required.
Current valid driver's license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out of state driving records must be obtained by applicant and presented at time of interview. Records must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.A Chesterfield County application is also required and must be submitted online by the deadline.
This position manages an Emergency Shelter Team during times of natural disaster, reporting to shelter duty as required.
