Job Description
This opening is to lead the Rights Management Team within the Records Group in FamilySearch Engineering. The team develops and provides operations support for the services that ensure that image and record-level rights are applied and enforced according to established contracts with the original records custodians.
The Mgr, Software Development 1 role is a management role that supports the broad objectives of the department and the Church in the work of software development. These objectives include code consistency, code quality, project maintainability, developer job satisfaction, retention and propagation of developer business knowledge, developer recruiting, developer training, and developer resource allocation across projects and software development methods. The manager is expected to have excellent technical skills in addition to project management and personnel management experience. The development manager acts as the coach and mentor to ensure the effective use of software development methodologies within the teams he/she oversees. This position is responsible for a group of developers, systems/products, and projects within a portfolio.
This individual works with divine guidance to provide or support technology that furthers the mission of the Church and reflects the eternal impact of the gospel.

Responsibilities
- Interacts with Program Managers, Technical Leads, and customers on projects under active development ensuring long-term interests are addressed
- Participates in team meetings, team planning sessions, team goal-setting, and other team activities
- Provides software development methodology coaching
- Provides full project management functions for maintenance projects already deployed and in use
- Facilitates training and professional development of software engineers
- Keeps abreast of industry best practices and emerging trends and technologies
- Provides significant direction for strategic plans and solution roadmaps
- Provides technical leadership in the design and development of technologically advanced issues
- Participates in the Problem Management process
- Complies with policies, standards, and regulatory requirements and ensures others are doing the same
- The employee must regularly manage the work of other employees (may include mixed workforce)
- The employee is authorized, in partnership with HR, to hire or fire employees and recommends advancement, promotion or any other change of status of employees within their reporting line
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, closely related field or equivalent experience.
- 8-10 years of technical experience including two years demonstrating a progression in leadership roles and three years deep technical experience in software development and IT methodologies
Preferred:
- Master's degree in a related field
Other Qualifications:
- Effectively manage a team of highly skilled engineers
- Must have had key responsibility for design and implementation of enterprise systems
- Strong understanding of Agile Software Development methodologies and principles
- Strong coding skills Experience designing and building multi-tier systems
- Must have experience with databases
- Expert level skills in engineering/programming, relevant software development technologies, analytical/diagnostic/troubleshooting, web technology, and programming methodology
- Familiarity with Cloud Based Platforms and services
- Strong familiarity with principles of continuous integration and continuous delivery
- Ability to communicate needs and expectations to different levels of management
- Ability to effectively work with vendors
- Must be able to interact effectively with customers and present solutions
- Lead customers through decision-making processes
