Position Overview

As a Field Service Engineer, you will be responsible for providing field service on Battery Energy Storage Systems and ancillary equipment starting from installation through warranty and long-term service support worldwide. This position also interfaces with third-party suppliers of large system components including inverters, transformers, and air conditioning systems. This position is based on the east coast, ideally local to our Westborough, MA office.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Establish, promote, and maintain good customer service relationships with internal and external team members
  • Safely operate, plan & perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs
  • Provide live remote technical support and/or training to customers as needed using remote/virtual tools such as cellular phone, WebEx, Microsoft Teams, and other similar tools
  • Support software, firmware upgrades
  • Maintain accurate site records of work performed and site issues
  • Contribute to product support procedures, training, troubleshooting guides, and other service documentation
  • Educate customers and contractors on basic equipment operation, response, and maintenance.
  • Other duties as required to support the product return and technical support process
  • Provide after-hours on-call support on a rotation basis
  • Communicate effectively and collaborate with authorized service providers and subcontractors in a lead role


Key Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Required:
  • Fundamental knowledge of electrical test and measurement equipment
  • Mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills with the ability to read and interpret schematics and drawings in relation to physical systems
  • Ability to interface well with customers and team members in a cross-functional environment
  • Experience with troubleshooting hardware and software compatibility issues
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Working knowledge TCP/IP networking background, especially routing and communications protocols
  • Experience with computer network operating systems
  • Experience using Office tools Excel, Powerpoint, Word

Desired:
  • Working knowledge of communications protocols such as CAN, Modbus, TC/PIP, DNP3
  • Familiarity with complex controls systems, Real-Time Operating Systems
  • Engineering experience with energy storage and power conversion systems
  • Knowledge or understanding of generation, transmission and distribution in electric grid systems
  • Structured problem-solving experience or Lean background
  • Understanding of computer networks


Education/Experience/Work Environment
  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering or equivalent technical experience
  • 3+ years experience
  • Willingness to travel up to 50%, domestic and international
  • Flexibility with working off-hours and being part of the off-hours, on-call rotation
  • Ability to lift and carry material is required
  • Must have a valid driver's license and passport and be willing /able to drive and fly to field sites as needed
