JOB SUMMARY
The Field Trip Coordinator plays a vital role in supporting student enrichment and district operations by leading the planning, organization, and execution of all field trip transportation logistics across Houston ISD. This role ensures that all student travel is conducted safely, efficiently, and in alignment with HISD's operational priorities and service commitments.
With a focus on safety, efficiency, and responsiveness, the Field Trip Coordinator collaborates closely with school administrators, teachers, transportation staff, and other stakeholders to ensure every trip reflects HISD's high-performance standards. The position requires strategic planning, logistical coordination, and regulatory compliance to deliver transportation services that enhance student experiences while upholding the district's mission and values.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Design and implement district-wide strategies to ensure the efficient and equitable scheduling and deployment of transportation resources for all field trips, aligned with HISD's service-to-schools model.
2. Evaluate and process trip requests by optimizing routes, vehicle assignments, and driver utilization to maximize operational efficiency and manage costs effectively.
3. Partner with campus leaders, athletic departments, and activity organizers to align transportation plans with instructional priorities, student safety, and logistical feasibility.
4. Manage a high volume of field trip requests, prioritizing based on urgency, safety, availability, and compliance with district and state regulations.
5. Coordinate with fleet maintenance staff to ensure buses and vehicles are road-ready, well-maintained, and compliant with all operational and safety standards prior to departure.
6. Monitor trips in real time, proactively resolving issues, responding to delays, and keeping schools and district stakeholders informed throughout each trip.

7. Deliver clear and professional communication to school staff and transportation personnel regarding trip schedules, policies, and operational expectations.
8. Ensure full compliance with HISD policies, Texas Education Agency guidelines, and safety protocols throughout all phases of trip planning and execution.
9. Conduct post-trip evaluations to assess service quality, identify areas for improvement, and implement enhancements to trip coordination and efficiency.
10. Maintain accurate documentation and data systems, including scheduling records, trip analytics, and performance reports to support transparency, continuous improvement, and informed decision-making.
11. Perform other job-related duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success of HISD's transportation operations and commitment to safe, student-centered services.
EDUCATION
Bachelor's Degree

LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES
Work Leadership. Regularly provides project management or team leadership to a group of two or more employees but does not have a formal supervisory responsibility. Leading and directing is restricted to monitoring work and providing guidance on escalated issues. Most of work time is spent performing man of the same duties they are leading.

Work involves the application of moderately complex procedures and tasks that are quite varied. Independent judgment is often required to select and apply the most appropriate of available resources. Ongoing supervision is provided on an "as needed" basis.
