As a member of the Controllership team, the Financial Accountant I is primarily responsible for supporting the day-to-day accounting operations, month-end close process and financial reporting for Seaspan ULC. This role will report to the Manager, Financial Reporting, and responsibilities will include month-end journal entries, account reconciliations, preparation of accruals and prepayments, financial reporting, analysis of results, and project support.
Note: This position qualifies for an optional hybrid work schedule after 90 days of onsite work and onboarding. Employee will be subject to the terms of the Flexible Work Policy Agreement.

The estimated salary for this position is $73,800 - $90,200. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate's skillset and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company's sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.

What you'll do
- Prepare journal entries to support the month-end close process.
- Monthly reconciliation of various balance sheet accounts and maintenance of working papers.
- Provide support to operations with general ledger setup, account changes, and account field data.
- Assist with the management of Seaspan ULC fixed assets in ERP including capitalizations, disposals, and depreciation.
- Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close and reporting activities for Seaspan ULC.
- Coordinate with external auditors during the interim and year-end audit, responding to assigned audit requests in a timely manner.
- Complete Statistics Canada requests for information and reports.
- Other duties as assigned.
What you'll bring
- Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance or Commerce.
- CPA or working towards a professional designation preferred.
- At least 1 - 2 years of relevant accounting and/ or financial analysis experience.
- Working knowledge on enterprise resource programs (ERP); preference given to those with experience using JD Edwards Enterprise One and SAP Business Objects Web Intelligence or similar applications.
- Knowledge and experience with Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE) an advantage.
- Proficient in MS-Office (Excel/Word/Outlook/PowerPoint).
- Ability to work well under pressure in a deadline-orientated role, and multi-task.
- Outstanding problem solving and research skills.
- Customer service orientation, self-starter and initiative driven.
- Excellent listening, verbal, and written communication skills.
