Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Financial Analyst for the University Office of Financial Planning, Analyses and Budget. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President, this position performs complex budget and forecast projections, analyses of budget, forecast and actual activity, and cost feasibility studies to facilitate decision-making and planning.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Conducts extensive and complex financial modeling and analyses using large, diverse data sets and requiring excellent analytical and technical skills.
- Provides critical financial analyses that drive decision-making processes for senior university leadership and the university's governing boards.
- Monitors budgetary and financial activity for assigned units, ensuring compliance with reporting requirements and providing data-driven recommendations.
- Evaluates unit budgetary requests, analyzing available funds, and developing reports, reporting tools and scenarios.
- Sets own work priorities and exercises independent judgment and problem-solving skills in making decisions concerning data analysis and recommendations.
- Works closely with University offices to create and maintain unit-specific and university-wide financial reports, used to control and monitor university-wide finances.
- Communicates primarily with the VP, Assistant VP, Chancellors' Offices and other administrative and academic unit administrators and financial managers regarding budget requests, budget, forecast or actual transactions, or system issues.
- While reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Financial Planning, Analyses and Budget, this position supports ad hoc projects for the University President; the EVP-CFO and University Treasurer; the Board of Governors; and the University Senate.

Minimum Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree preferably in accounting, finance, data analytics, business administration, or a related field.
- 5 or more years prior experience working in a financial or accounting position with increasing responsibility, preferably in higher education.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Exceptional computer skills and expert/advanced experience using spreadsheets, data query tools, charting and other software tools, such as Excel, Tableau, Access, PowerPoint.
- Must have expert level ability in pivot tables and advanced spreadsheet functionality.
- Analytical skills necessary for interpretation of budgetary, financial, and related management information.
- Ability to work independently to meet objectives.
- Ability to balance risk and compliance while assessing options to various financial issues facing the university.
- Ability to exercise sound judgement and discretion, especially in matters with sensitive and/or confidential financial or organizational matters.
- Ability and desire to work cooperatively with people from all levels of the university in support of the office's and UFA's service mission.
- Ability to work effectively under time constraints and to respond flexibly and constructively under pressure.
- Excellent attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy.
- Excellent written and verbal presentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in accounting, data analytics and/or finance or MBA preferred.
- Knowledge of Oracle ERP Cloud products, Tableau and Access.
- Basic knowledge of SQL functionality.
- Prior knowledge of Rutgers University accounting/budgeting and business management processes or similar experience in a higher education is a plus.
- Experience in public, non-profit, or higher education.
