JOB TITLE: Flight Test Engineer

REPORTING TO: Chief Engineer
SUMMARY:
The Flight Test Engineer will be responsible for the planning, execution, and analysis of flight test programs for experimental rotorcraft and unmanned air vehicles. This role requires a strong understanding of aerospace engineering principles, flight test methodologies, data analysis techniques, and proficiency in utilizing simulation software for analysis and visualization. The engineer will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to ensure the safe and efficient conduct of flight test operations.

SUMMARY:
The Flight Test Engineer will be responsible for the planning, execution, and analysis of flight test programs for experimental rotorcraft and unmanned air vehicles. This role requires a strong understanding of aerospace engineering principles, flight test methodologies, data analysis techniques, and proficiency in utilizing simulation software for analysis and visualization. The engineer will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to ensure the safe and efficient conduct of flight test operations.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and execute flight test plans for prototype aircraft, including flight test cards.
- Conduct pre-flight inspections and safety checks.
- Operate onboard instrumentation and data acquisition systems.
- Analyze flight test data to assess aircraft performance, stability, and control, correlating findings with simulation results.
- Prepare flight test reports and documentation, incorporating simulation results and analysis.
- Troubleshoot technical issues and implement solutions.
- Collaborate with design engineers to improve aircraft design and performance, utilizing simulation software to assess design modifications.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable safety regulations.
- Perform structural analysis, including stress, FEA, and fatigue analysis, to ensure aircraft components meet design and safety standards, and develop any necessary structural repairs.
KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES:
- Strong understanding of aerospace engineering principles, flight dynamics, and aircraft systems.
- Experience with flight test planning, execution, and data analysis.
- Familiarity with instrumentation and data acquisition systems.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in simulation software, including modeling, simulation, and analysis capabilities.
EDUCATION / CERTIFICATIONS / CLEARANCES:
- Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in flight test engineering.
- Pilot's license (fixed-wing or rotorcraft) is a plus.
- Experience with FLIGHTLAB or similar simulation software is a plus.
- Ability to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance.
