We are seeking a full-time Food Safety and Quality Assurance Manager to join our growing team at our facility in Billerica, MA. Reporting to the Director, Food Safety and Quality Assurance, this position will be responsible for implementing, maintaining, and improving food safety and quality assurance processes at our facility, while ensuring the company maintains compliance with SQF certification and applicable state and federal food laws. This position will lead the on-site manufacturing food safety program. We seek an organized, self-starter with at least 5 years of experience in food manufacturing.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities
  • Implement, maintain, and improve manufacturing and quality processes and records to ensure food safety and quality assurance at the facility. This includes HACCP (cGMPs, HACCP Plan, PRPs, etc.), SQF and Regulatory audits, cGMP self-audits, standard and sanitation standard operating procedures (SOPs/SSOPs), incoming ingredient inspections, food safety audits, product tracing and recalls, consumer complaints.
  • Ensure food safety and quality assurance requirements by maintaining all certifications at the facility and abiding by applicable state and federal food laws.
  • Be the primary resource for on-site manufacturing facility compliance.
  • Oversee monitoring, verification, and validation activities to ensure that all products leaving the facility meet food safety and quality standards.
  • Provide facility guidance and leadership in situations where deviations have occurred, or a potential risk has been identified related to food safety and/or quality attributes.
  • Lead the product hold and release program.
  • Actively participate in root cause analysis, corrective actions and preventive actions.
  • Evaluate incoming raw materials and identify issues with suppliers.
  • Support the food traceability program within our ERP system to ensure full tracking of supply chain.
  • Support mock recalls to prepare effectively for actual recalls.
  • Familiarity with microbiology laboratory techniques and rapid test methods.
  • Support shelf-life testing for the determination and verification of product safety and quality.
  • Support the reassessment of food safety plans whenever there is a change to process, procedure, ingredient, equipment, industry philosophy, regulation, technology, etc.,

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, or other Science related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive food safety experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory capacity within a manufacturing environment under HACCP, USDA and/or FDA
  • Demonstrated capacity for leadership in the areas of food safety and quality assurance
  • Experience with dairy / low acid beverages preferred
  • Experience with thermal processing such as retort / LACF / aseptic processing / High acid foods preferred
  • Competence in quality systems/processes (SQF, CAPA, Six Sigma etc.).
  • One or more of the following certifications: HACCP, PCQI, SQF Practitioner
  • Proven ability to work in a manufacturing team environment.
