Description
The Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine, Melbourne (FL) Campus, seeks a full-time Founding Director for this proposed program with a preferred start date of July 1st, 2025.

The proposed Master of Health Science in Anesthesia Program (MHSA), pending approval by the Higher Learning Commission and the State of Florida's Commission for Independent Education, is expected to start in Fall 2026. The College will also work to obtain programmatic accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).

The College is located in Melbourne, Florida, also known as the Space Coast, located in Brevard County, 72 miles southeast of Orlando and 175 miles northwest of Miami. The College also has a campus in Las Cruces, New Mexico, and operates regional academic centers for clinical clerkships in Texas, Arizona, and Florida. The MHSA program will be delivered through the College's Melbourne (FL) campus.

Examples of Duties

  • Assist in facilitating the programmatic accreditation process.
  • Effective leadership and management with careful attention to all aspects of the program and finances to assure a solid operational foundation;
  • Manage day-to-day operations of the MHSA program in accordance with accreditation standards;
  • Recruit, supervise, evaluate and manage department faculty and support staff;
  • Serve as the Chief Academic Officer over the MHSA program. Develop the program including but not limited to curriculum development, admissions processes, program outcomes, student learning outcomes, clinical site placement coordination, and community relations in compliance with accreditation standards and university policies
Faculty Responsibilities: The Founding Director/CAO will have a faculty appointment and will be responsible for activities required of all faculty including exemplary teaching, curriculum development, student recruitment and advising; professional attainment; and service to department, college, university, and the community.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduate degree from an accredited university in education, administration, medicine, or the medical basic sciences is required.
  • Must be a Certified Anesthesiologist Assistant.
  • Minimum of five (5) years clinical experience, administrative and organizational capabilities required. Documented experience in graduate teaching and advising in sciences.
  • Experience preferred in leading or participating in CAAHEP / ARC-AA program accreditation activities is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) or other recognized institutional accreditors standards.
  • Must have the requisite knowledge and skills to administer the classroom/academic aspects of the program.
  • Must have requisite knowledge and skills to administer the operation of the overall program, including budget, staffing and related tasks. Ability to work both independently and as a part of a team required.
  • Ability to analyze and proactively solve problems.
  • Excellent teaching and communication skills, a dedication to professional attainment, and commitment to quality improvement are essential.
