Job Overview
RYSS is seeking dynamic, high energy, experienced educator as Founding Principal. Founding principals open each site with the responsibility that the school site is ready for students, parents and visitors. Founding principals serve as the instructional leader for each school site and are committed to and lead their school in instructional leadership, teacher coaching and evaluation, school management, school culture, and community engagement. The Founding Principal is responsible for the academic outcomes of students and must be committed to implementing policies and practices that achieve the RYSS mission and vision for academic instruction, student experience, and adult culture. Additionally, Founding Principals must work collaboratively with members of the RYSS Academic team to implement school improvement strategies, improve student outcomes, and provide students and families with access to the Tejano Center for Community Concerns (TCCC) community-based programming. Each Founding Principal is responsible for building a highly effective team that ensures students are learning in a safe and welcoming environment and are individually dedicated to helping each student achieve personal and academic success by using proven best practices for teaching and learning.
The principal reports directly to the Chief of Schools and is accountable as well to the TCCC CEO/Superintendent. Founding Principals manage their school buildings and take part in RYSS meetings with other RYSS leadership, as determined by the Chief of Schools.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Executes the charter district and campus safe schools and crisis management plan and meets with Campus Safety Team on a monthly basis
  • Serve as the instructional leader for the school site by establishing expectations and managing others to implement instructional, social-emotional, and behavioral systems designed to provide students with an exceptional education experience aligned to RYSS's mission and vision
  • Manages and aligns campus budget and instructional resources to the campus improvement plan
  • Set rigorous and data-driven goals for student performance aligned to District goals.
  • Build and foster a student centered, school community aligned to RYSS's visions for student success and adult culture.
  • Lead teachers and support staff in regularly collecting, analyzing and responding to student data to address gaps in student learning and adjust instruction to meet individual student needs
  • Ensure teachers and other staff receive ongoing, meaningful feedback, coaching and professional development to continually improve their impact on students.
  • Develop and implement plans to ensure the school complies with all federal, state and local laws and board policies and procedures and other district initiatives and expectations.
  • Design and implement meaningful systems to communicate and engage with families so they may be active partners in their child's education and have their concerns addressed promptly.
  • Build powerful relationships and partnerships with community partners to benefit student learning and social development and ensure family concerns are addressed promptly.
  • Ensure timely reporting of all necessary data to the RYSS central office and/or state when applicable.
  • Select, train, supervise, and evaluate staff and make recommendations relative to assignment, retention, discipline, and dismissal. Approve all personnel assigned to campus.
  • Develop and maintain quality data, a balanced budget, and operational systems to ensure effective management of all school-based needs.
  • Oversee maintenance of facilities to ensure a clean, orderly, and safe campus.
  • Provide a safe and secure campus that will create and maintain a feeling of safety and security for all
  • Ensure campus facility complies with all local, state and federal safety regulations.
  • Creates and enacts the campus recruitment and retention plan for students and staff

Education, Experience, & Skills
  • Texas principal or other appropriate Texas certification required
  • Minimum 4 years experience as a classroom teacher and 3 years experience in school and/or district leadership roles
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Skilled in reviewing student academic and behavioral data and creating action plans in response
  • Ability to assess and provide feedback to teachers on their performance
  • Ability to be flexible and thrive in ambiguous and challenging circumstances independently
  • Proven track record of building relationships with various stakeholders
  • Ability to lead others to accomplish bold goals and use technology applications to strengthen student and teacher learning
  • Ability to communicate effectively through multiple channels (orally, through email, in large and small settings, etc.) with various audiences
  • Demonstrated commitment to serving the families and students of the RYSS community
  • Belief in the power of the community-school model
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Teams) and Google Driv
