Role Overview

Job Title: Front-End Development Manager
Location: Austin, TX / Open to remote within US (EST or CST)
Department: Technology
Reports to: VP of Product
Job Type: Full-time, Exempt

We're seeking an experienced Front-End Development Manager to lead our distributed development team and drive the technical excellence of our consumer-facing web properties. This role combines technical leadership, remote team management, and architectural oversight to deliver high-performance web experiences for our wellness customers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Team Leadership & Management
    • Lead and mentor a flexible team of remote contract developers across multiple time zones
    • Establish development standards, best practices, and coding guidelines
    • Manage team capacity, scaling the team up or down based on project demands
    • Coordinate with product management to establish delivery timelines and resource requirements
    • Conduct code reviews and provide technical mentorship to team members
  • Technical Architecture & Development
    • Own the front-end technical architecture, ensuring consistency across all web properties
    • Drive TypeScript adoption and implementation across the platform
    • Establish and maintain development standards for responsive, mobile-first design
    • Optimize page load performance and implement performance monitoring
    • Integrate server-side rendering solutions for SEO optimization
    • Manage the implementation and evolution of our component library
    • Partner with Data team to implement analytics solutions (likely Mixpanel)
    • Ensure comprehensive analytics tracking across all user interactions
    • Collaborate with back-end team to identify and request API enhancements
  • CMS Leadership
    • Own and architect our headless CMS implementation (likely Strapi or Keystone JS)
    • Design content models that support our marketing and operational needs
    • Establish content governance and management processes
    • Ensure CMS security and performance
    • Integrate CMS with our front-end architecture
  • Project Management
    • Partner with project managers in sprint planning and prioritization exercises
    • Lead sprint ceremonies for the front-end team while coordinating with Kanban-based back-end team
    • Collaborate with product managers to define technical requirements and timelines
    • Establish project tracking and reporting processes
    • Ensure consistent delivery quality across all team members
    • Manage technical documentation and knowledge sharing
    • Balance team capacity across sprint commitments
    • Coordinate cross-team dependencies between sprint and Kanban workflows

Requirements
  • Education:
    • BS in an engineering discipline
  • Experience:
    • 5+ years of front-end development experience
    • 3+ years of team management experience, particularly with remote/distributed teams
    • Strong experience with modern JavaScript/TypeScript and front-end frameworks
    • Experience with headless CMS architecture and implementation
    • Experience with SEO optimization and server-side rendering
    • Experience implementing and managing analytics solutions
    • Experience coordinating cross-team dependencies
    • Experience managing offshore development teams in India or Latin America (preferred)
    • Experience with EJS templating (preferred)
    • Experience with e-commerce or booking systems (preferred)
  • Skills and Abilities:
    • Proven track record of delivering high-performance web applications
    • Proven success in Agile environments, particularly with sprint management
    • Excellent communication skills and experience working across time zones
    • Familiarity with React and component library development (preferred)
    • Knowledge of health/wellness industry (preferred)
    • Experience with Agile development methodologies (preferred)
