The General Superintendent is responsible for the overall direction, leadership, and oversight of all superintendents in coordination with the Vice President / General Manger, Vice President of Field Operations, Director of Operations, and Director of Self-Perform, ensuring safe, collaborative, and high-quality execution of projects. This position is the leader for delivering and implementing Knutson's Zero Incident Safety Culture and ensuring that all team members are delivering The Knutson Experience (TKE) to our owners, subcontractors, design partners, and fellow Team Blue members.

The key job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

SAFETY
  • Responsible for leading and modeling Knutson's Zero Incident Safety Culture.
  • Ensure superintendents are facilitating weekly safety meetings, daily huddles, and stretching in support of Knutson's Zero Incident Safety Culture.
  • Review safety audits on a continuous basis and support the safety department in making the required adjustments.
  • Work collaboratively with the safety department and external parties in responding to on-site OSHA inspections.

PEOPLE LEADERSHIP
  • Attract, retain, and develop employees while building professional, motivated, high-performing teams.
  • Recruit and interview candidates through channels that provide opportunities for people of all backgrounds, in collaboration with human resources and union partnerships.
  • Model and lead in alignment with Knutson's culture and core values, providing opportunities in an inclusive, respectful, and supportive environment.
  • Provide leadership, feedback, and guidance to superintendents through Performance Enablement meetings on a quarterly basis or as needed.
  • Lead with a coaching and empowerment mindset to successfully grow and develop team members.
  • Establish and communicate job responsibilities and performance expectations to assure mutual understanding of desired results.
  • Provide constructive feedback and manage performance expectations through a highly effective and supportive communication style.
  • Identify training and development opportunities that will assist team members in achieving enhanced job performance work-related objectives.
  • Continuously build and develop teams capable of allowing Knutson to expand into new geographic areas or market sectors.
  • Identify, plan for, and support the growth and development of staff to ensure a continuous succession plan for field and management positions.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders (such as owners, design professionals, subcontractors, inspectors, regulatory agencies, and others) to promote project efficiency and position Knutson Construction for future opportunities.

QUALITY & PRODUCTIVITY
  • Collaborate with the Director of Self-Perform and Director of Operations to ensure self-performed work is being optimized while delivering The Knutson Experience.
  • Apply knowledge of labor, equipment, and material budgets to achieve successful project outcomes.
  • Ensure that the master schedule, procurement logs, look-ahead schedules, daily logs, and all required project documentation are completed timely by the project teams to minimize risk.
  • Ensure project teams adhere to corporate quality assurance/quality control policies and practices.
  • Identify opportunities to establish and continuously improve upon core processes for improved efficiency and quality outcomes.
  • Inspire and model leadership through change management initiatives that improve processes.

PROJECT EXECUTION
  • Deliver The Knutson Experience (TKE) to owners, trade partners, design partners, and employees.
  • Verify the development of the master schedule for each project to ensure completion and accuracy.
  • Prepare and submit a weekly report to management for all projects currently being managed.
  • Review forecasted equipment and labor costs with project team for accuracy.
  • Provide guidance as needed for out-of-scope work with the project team.
  • Review and communicate to group leadership project related issues (such as labor and equipment budget overruns, delays, weather) that can impact the financial performance of the job.
  • Review and inspect all Knutson jobsites to ensure that Knutson's brand is adequately represented and ensure jobsites maintain appropriate cleanliness and appearance.
  • Provide leadership to project teams to maximize financial performance and mitigate risk.
  • Provide leadership and resolve subcontractor issues such as delays, defective work, craft worker shortages, etc.
  • Collaborate with the yard and project teams to ensure equipment rental and billing processes are followed, maximizing financial performance while delivering TKE to our owners.
  • Participate and collaborate with preconstruction and project teams, along with others, in all executive review meetings (i.e. self-perform, GC & margin, GMP Estimates, etc.)
  • Attend, participate, and hold project teams accountable to conduct required meetings on all projects (iI.e. PPP, PTM, Exit meetings, etc.).
  • Collaborate with other Knutson offices and team members to ensure a One Knutson approach to winning and executing successful projects.

PRECONSTRUCTION / EARLY PROJECT PLANNING
  • Participate in the "go / no-go" process to identify potential team members for project pursuits, while ensuring that potential projects are in line with Knutson's strategic plans.
  • Participate and ensure direct reports are collaborating with the estimating team on project pursuits to develop an understanding of project scope, plans, specifications, and bid schedule creation.
  • Participate in business development activities to support the growth objectives of Knutson's strategic plan.
  • Participate and collaborate in the pursuit process as required to ensure Knutson's project backlog is maintained.
  • Knowledge of construction processes (reading drawings, understanding specifications, field labor, building construction, etc.).
  • Ability to identify and mitigate project risks.
  • Ability to motivate others to achieve project goals.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple demands to meet project requirements/schedules.
  • Ability to collaborate successfully with internal and external employees and partners.
  • Effectively problem solve and manage conflicts.
  • Ability to effectively present and communicate to large groups of people (i.e. safety meetings, interviews, jobsites, etc.).
  • Knowledge and ability to adhere to building codes, OSHA standards, state and federal regulations.
  • Skilled in negotiating sub-contracts using tact and persuasion.
  • Proficiency with computer and software applications, including Microsoft Office suite and other construction software applications.
  • Skilled in coordinating and facilitating meetings.
  • Demonstrated skill in verbal and written communication with project teams, subcontractors, field personnel and owners.
  • Ability to routinely travel to project sites, events, and Knutson offices as needed.
  • High school diploma and a minimum of fifteen years of commercial construction-related experience or an equivalent combination of education (bachelor's degree preferred), training, and/or experience.
  • SWPPP certified.
  • OSHA 30 certification, or ability to obtain within the first 6-months of employment.
  • Construction-related certifications are desirable.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • High school diploma and a minimum of fifteen years of commercial construction-related experience or an equivalent combination of education (bachelor's degree preferred), training, and/or experience.
  • SWPPP certified.
  • OSHA 30 certification, or ability to obtain within the first 6-months of employment.
  • Construction-related certifications are desirable.

Projected Minimum Base Salary per year $165,000

Projected Maximum Base Salary per year $230,000
