Job Title: Surgical Scrub Technician
Job Specialty: Surgical Tech - Acute Care
Job Duration: 13 weeks
Shift: 5x8.0 hour shifts
Guaranteed Hours: Not specified
Experience: Minimum 1 year required
License: OR Tech licensure/certification required
Certifications: BLS (through AHA or RQI specifically) required
Must-Have: OR Tech certification and AHA BLS certification
Job Description:
- Participate as a team member in the planning and implementation of nursing care for each patient.
- Work collaboratively with medical, nursing, and ancillary services to provide safe patient care.
- Demonstrate professionalism, courteousness, and discretion in handling confidential information for patients and their families.
- Ensure instruments are cleaned and sterilized properly, recognizing successful completion of sterilization processes.
- Select equipment and supplies in an organized manner, based on surgical procedures.
- Prepare instrument sets according to preference lists, patient history, and age, using supplies cost-effectively.
- Handle and operate sophisticated equipment adeptly, adapting to changes in surgical procedures.
- Maintain sterile fields and aseptic techniques in accordance with AORN Standards.
- Open and handle sterile supplies, perform proper surgical hand scrubbing, and don sterile gown and gloves.
- Set up sterile fields, receive sterile supplies, and assist in the proper draping of the patient.
- Initiate corrective measures if a break in sterile technique occurs.
- Work safely with sharps to prevent injury or contamination.
- Follow policies and procedures for counts, maintaining correct counts of all countable items on the sterile field.
- Accurately draw up medication with proper labeling of all solutions and syringes.
- Serve as a preceptor and mentor to new employees.
- Assess surgical environments for safety, cleanliness, and compliance with regulatory and organizational standards.
- Support a state of continual service readiness.
- Ensure a clean, safe, and orderly work and care environment.
