Position Title: Global Trade and Compliance Director
Location: Boca Raton, Florida or Remote
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
Job Summary:
The Global Trade and Compliance Executive is responsible for ensuring that all international trade activities comply with global trade laws, regulations, and policies. This individual will manage and oversee international trade operations, customs compliance, import/export activities, and monitor the enforcement of applicable regulations to mitigate the risk of non-compliance. This role involves working closely with internal stakeholders, external government agencies, legal teams, and other compliance professionals to maintain seamless and compliant global operations.
Key Responsibilities:
1.Global Trade Compliance Management:
Oversee and manage international trade operations, including import/export procedures, customs duties and Tariffs, and trade regulations across multiple jurisdictions.
Develop, implement, and maintain global trade compliance policies and procedures to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements.
Collaborate with the legal department to ensure compliance with trade agreements, sanctions, tariffs, export controls, and international trade laws.
Advise senior leadership on changes to trade regulations that may impact operations, cost structure, and overall risk.
2.Customs and Import/Export Operations:
Ensure that all import/export transactions are properly documented, classified, and compliant with all international and domestic laws and regulations.
Coordinate the preparation of import/export documentation, such as invoices, shipping manifests, and certificates of origin, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
Conduct audits of import/export operations to ensure compliance and identify potential gaps or areas for improvement.
Liaise with customs authorities, freight forwarders, and other external entities to ensure timely and accurate processing of shipments.
3.Risk Management and Mitigation:
Monitor and assess potential risks related to trade operations and compliance, including exposure to fines, penalties, or business disruptions.
Develop and execute risk mitigation strategies to minimize exposure to non-compliance, including training programs and internal audits.
Keep abreast of global trade developments, sanctions, and emerging risks to advise the organization on necessary changes to operations and compliance protocols.
4.Regulatory Reporting and Documentation:
Prepare and submit regulatory filings and reports related to trade compliance, including but not limited to customs declarations, export licenses, and government permits.
Maintain a strong understanding of trade laws in various countries and regions to ensure compliance with evolving regulations.
Ensure all trade records are accurately maintained in accordance with relevant government regulations and corporate policies.
5.Internal Collaboration and Training:
Work closely with other departments (e.g., logistics, supply chain, legal, procurement) to ensure a coordinated approach to global trade compliance.
Provide compliance training to internal teams to enhance awareness and ensure that employees are up-to-date on trade regulations and best practices.
Act as a liaison between internal stakeholders and external regulatory bodies to resolve any compliance-related issues or concerns.
6.Continuous Improvement:
Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the trade and compliance function, including process optimization, technology upgrades, and workflow enhancements.
Monitor trends and changes in international trade, including tariffs, trade agreements, and geopolitical factors, to proactively address potential impacts on business operations.
Evaluate and recommend the use of trade compliance technologies to automate processes and enhance efficiency.
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor's degree in International Business, Logistics, Law, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
A professional certification in global trade compliance (e.g., Certified Customs Specialist (CCS), Licensed Customs Broker, etc.) is preferred.
Experience:
Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in global trade compliance, import/export operations, or customs-related roles.
In-depth knowledge of global trade laws and regulations, including customs, export controls, sanctions, and tariffs.
Experience working with government agencies (e.g., Customs and Border Protection, OFAC) and other regulatory bodies.
Skills and Competencies:
Strong understanding of international trade documentation and regulatory requirements.
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills to assess trade risks and develop compliance strategies.
Ability to navigate complex international trade regulations and provide actionable guidance to business units.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.
Detail-oriented and organized, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
Technical Skills:
Familiarity with data analytics tools and trade compliance automation systems is a plus.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
