Position Description
The Harris County Archives preserves, protects and provides access to the permanent and historical records documenting the government and citizens of Harris County, Texas. The Harris County Archivist uses best professional practices to administer the archives while promoting the archives both within the county government and the community.

Position Description
The Harris County Archives preserves, protects and provides access to the permanent and historical records documenting the government and citizens of Harris County, Texas. The Harris County Archivist uses best professional practices to administer the archives while promoting the archives both within the county government and the community.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Administrative duties - Establish policies and procedures, maintain monthly statistics, maintain accession records and logs, approve loans, supervise staff, volunteers, interns, and temporary workers, order archival supplies.
- Appraisal and Accessioning - Determines historical/permanent value of county records and private donations working through County Records Management, individual departments, and individuals. Completes appropriate documents for legal transfer of records.
- Processing - Evaluation of records for preservation and conservation, arrangement (where necessary), rehousing, description including writing Finding Aids when putting the information into CRM (local database).
- Reference - Assist users to find information needed in the archives, provide copies when requested. Provide internet access to records through the HCA Webpage, Harris County Digital Archives, marking up finding aids for inclusion in TARO.
- Outreach - Promotes the HCA by speaking to community groups (legacy, genealogical, historical), participating in archival professional organizations at local, state, regional, and national levels, working with departments and elected officials, creating exhibits, writing brochures and flyers.
