The Opportunity
BC Ferries is seeking a highly experienced senior executive to join the team in an exciting new opportunity.
In order to address the challenges brought on by constrained system capacity, aging major assets, and environmental sustainability, BC Ferries is launching a new Fleet Renewal Program that will see a large number of new major and minor vessels introduced to the fleet in the near term as well as significant builds and upgrades to shore-based infrastructure and facilities. These projects together form the largest capital investment in the company's history.
The Head, Fleet Renewal is the senior executive within BC Ferries with authority to execute the multi-billion-dollar Fleet Renewal Program. You are responsible for setting strategic direction for the program and overseeing successful execution of the program's mandates. You are also responsible for ensuring that the organization meets its program goals and objectives through the delivery of renewal projects efficiently and effectively and in alignment with corporate requirements.

Additional Information
The target salary range: $217,360 - $271,700 per annum. The starting salary is determined based on the successful candidate's knowledge and experience, and on internal equity. Starting salary may exceed the target range on an exceptional basis.

The Role
Reporting directly to the BC Ferries President & CEO, this role is integral to the achievement of company objectives, and you contribute value through key areas of oversight such as:
- Providing strategic leadership and being the single point of accountability to the Program Board for delivering shipbuilding projects, related critical shore-side projects including certain terminal construction and upgrade projects, and all supporting requirements for successful and timely delivery into service of new vessels;
- Providing input into the requirements definition processes for new vessels and for related terminal projects;
- Leading design processes and plan approval, supervising shipyard selection for design-build-delivery contracts and contractor selection for terminal project design and construction;
- Overseeing contract negotiation and award and representing BC Ferries in all dealings with shipyards and other contractors during construction;
- Implementing processes to coordinate all activities necessary for the successful handover, ready in all respects for service, of newly delivered vessels to Fleet Operations;
- Developing and strengthening key stakeholder relationships within BC Ferries and with industry suppliers and contractors including shipyards and design teams that build BC Ferries' new vessels, terminal construction contractors, and partner utility companies;
What you bring to the team
- Post-secondary degree in Engineering or Naval Architecture required, with a graduate degree in Engineering, Naval Architecture or Business Administration/Management/Leadership preferred
- 10 years of experience in shipbuilding, ship repair, or other marine/maritime programs preferred
- 10 years of experience in a leadership role with accountability for delivering on complex multi-year programs and leading multi-disciplinary teams
- Experience providing advice/reports to Board of Directors, Senior Executives, Government Ministries
- Experience with Design-Build-Fixed price contract management preferred
