JOB SUMMARY: Bronco Wine Company is on a journey transform its organizational culture, HR practices, and operational efficiency. We need a leader to help us on this strategic journey who is equally passionate about crafting exceptional wines while fostering a culture of safety, collaboration, and innovation. The Head of Human Resources will play a pivotal role on the Executive Leadership Team, as a culture champion for the organization, and build BWC's Employer of Choice strategy by reshaping our workplace, ensuring a safe and engaging environment for our employees while driving business success. This role is a strategic and operational leader responsible for driving a people-first culture and will oversee all aspects of Human Resources, including talent management, organizational development, employee relations, and compliance, while also leading key functions related to Safety, Physical Security, and Risk Management across multiple sites. This role requires a highly competent and experienced HR professional with exceptional communication skills who has broad and deep experience in driving culture, building new HR capabilities and optimizing and improving existing HR policies and processes on a national level, able to use insight and expertise to proactively advise, influence and execute both the business and people objectives including identifying and executing strategic initiatives that will enable business performance and must understand the business beyond the HR function to ensure superior operations and business outcomes.

Qualifications

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Strategy
  • Lead the HR function, safety and security team.
  • Key member of Executive Leadership Team focusing on evolving the company culture.
  • Lead the HR organization to become a more strategic partner beyond transactional execution.
  • Develop and implement HR metrics that align with overall company objectives.
  • Develop a multi-year HR Roadmap. Align with ELT and Managing Directors on how to achieve and exceed business targets and align people strategies able to best support with impact. Influence key stakeholders to ensure employee and business needs are managed and exceeded.
  • Provide insight and analyses on people-topics; HR strategy/plan and headcount forecast.
  • Lead and deliver the annual Workforce and Personal Cost Planning cycles.


Talent Acquisition & Development
  • Ensure a first-class recruitment and selection process experience for both Candidates and Hiring Managers.
  • Design training and development for managers on recruitment. Provides line Managers with a framework for best practice interviewing to onboarding and partners with the line manager to ensure its proper implementation.
  • Drive recruitment strategies to attract top talent and build a strong employer brand.
  • Utilize social media and internal communication to strengthen culture, and employee engagement and to recruit new talent.
  • Implement talent review and management strategies to nurture high-potential employees.
  • Create leadership development programs that cultivate high-potential talent, strengthen executive capabilities, and ensure a robust pipeline for future organizational growth.
  • Design and implement career development programs to enhance employee growth and engagement.
  • Build succession plans to ensure leadership continuity and long-term workforce stability.


Functional Structure, Design & Optimization
  • Refine existing performance management frameworks that drive productivity and accountability.
  • Ensure that HR properly handles all employment-related inquiries referring complex and/or sensitive matters in a manner consistent with our policies and culture, and in a timely manner.
  • Own all HR Investigations, related HR team training, and HR tools/resources for consistent handling. Leverage HR team members and Legal for the completion of Investigations up to Managing Directors which will be owned by the Head of HR (ELT, Legal, or HR will leverage outside counsel).
  • Review and recommend areas to optimize payroll, benefits, and retirement programs.
  • Supports, advises and executes the rollout of future HR systems, vendor relationships (RFI/P), and tools; build and leads project teams.
  • Design a comprehensive Employee Engagement strategy with survey, action planning, and report outs.
  • Set up competitive compensation structures and talent management
  • Build recognition and rewards programs to reinforce company values and achievements.
  • Foster a positive work environment through proactive employee relations strategies.
  • Optimize current onboarding and offboarding processes to enhance employee experience and retention.


Compliance
  • Owns HR compliance topics including: Policy & Handbooks, Reporting (EEO-1, Pay Data Reports such as SB1162, ACA, ERISA/5500s, OSHA Logs, CA WVPP, etc.), all HR/employment Compliance Training; partner with GC/Legal team and other resources.
  • Lead the development and enforcement process of policies that align with industry regulations and best practices; partner with and hold accountable managers when delivering discipline.
  • Review, assess and recommend courses of action to ensure the company is in full compliance with all federal, state, local, and other regulatory requirements for labor, employment, leave of absence/ADA, workplace safety, and related.
  • Maintain expert-level knowledge of current and developing employment regulations, HR and industry-specific best practices to Identify, assess, and mitigate risks related to HR, safety, and security operations. Collaborate with Legal and ELT to address potential liabilities and mitigate risks.
  • Build and deliver related informational materials, presentations, and/or training across BWC in full.
  • Conduct Internal Audits - Periodic reviews can prevent compliance issues before external audits evaluating all current and new people-related compliance regulations, reviewing company processes, and implementing best practices across the organization working closely with the ELT and across the various stakeholder groups teams.


Budget Management & Financial Duties
  • Partner with CFO/teams to manage all BWC headcount and people-related costs.
  • Optimize national merit cycle budget planning process.
  • Own HR/Safety/Security/Risk team budgets ensuring optimum allocation of resources and funds.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive Talent Acquisition, Compensation and Benefits plans that are competitive and cost-effective; hasfiduciary responsibilities including acting solely in the interest of the participants and their beneficiaries, providing benefits to workers participating in the plan, and defraying reasonable expenses of the plan.


People & Functional Management
  • Direct people manager of the HR department (7 including 1 non-exempt position and 1 off-site position [Napa, CA]).
  • Direct people manager of the in-house Safety & Risk Management team (8).
  • Functional Management/Ownership of the Safety Committee.
  • Functional Oversight of related external vendors.
  • Strategic HR Business Partner to the ELT.


REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:
  • Several years of HR business partner and HR management experience preferably within a matrix environment, working closely with senior leaders.
  • Proven success in executing HR strategy at a national level, and in developing local HR strategy in line with the national business plan priorities.
  • Experience in identifying and analyzing HR and business data to recommend HR initiatives that will drive business objectives Ability to work under pressure, multi task and coordinate, with multiple deadlines and stakeholders
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral), including presentation and training skills.
  • Team player who is cooperative with sharing of information and knowledge
  • Exceptional listening, verbal, and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate at all levels; extensive experience counseling executives, managers, and employees in sensitive situations.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.

  • Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or related software to build presentations and training; experience working with Payroll/HRIS systems (e.g. Paycom), and employee "Ask HR" systems (e.g. Paycom Ask Here, Zendesk)


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • 15+ plus years of human resource management experience preferred, preferably in the wine, alcoholic beverages, or agricultural or CPG/beverage manufacturing and production industries
  • Previous people management required with oversight to a full HR team and budget preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • HR Certifications preferred, not required: PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, Cornell HR Certifications.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Regularly works in an office setting 5-days per week unless traveling.
  • Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
  • Employee frequently is required to walk and sit.
  • Employee is occasionally required to stand and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds as needed.
  • Exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions
  • Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
  • Must wear personal protective equipment in required areas (Side shield safety glasses, safety vest, head/ear protection, and proper footwear when in production facility and warehouse or while touring outdoor locations).
