Head of Operations and Maintenance

Location: Houston, Texas

Job Summary:

The Head of Operations and Maintenance will develop and lead the offshore operations and maintenance teams, through partnerships when required, ensuring the smooth and efficient running of offshore facilities, typically FPSO's and FLNG's. This individual will play a vital role in optimizing production, ensuring safety, and maintaining operational integrity while adhering to company policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements

Key accountabilities will include:

Leadership & Team Management:

  • Lead, manage, and mentor a multi-disciplinary offshore operations and maintenance team.
  • Foster a culture of safety, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
  • Oversee the recruitment, training, and development of offshore operations and maintenance personnel

Operational Management:

  • Oversee all offshore operational activities, ensuring that production targets are met and operational processes are aligned with business goals.
  • Coordinate with other departments (HSE, Engineering, Production, etc.) to ensure smooth execution of operations.
  • Ensure that offshore facilities operate within safe, efficient, and compliant parameters, minimizing downtime and maximizing production.
  • Implement and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess operational performance and drive improvement

Maintenance Strategy & Execution:

  • Develop, implement, and manage the maintenance strategy for all offshore facilities, including preventive, corrective, and predictive maintenance.
  • Establish and manage maintenance schedules to minimize unplanned downtime and reduce asset wear.
  • Supervise and optimize the maintenance budget to ensure cost control and effective resource allocation.
  • Ensure the timely procurement of spare parts and materials, while managing inventory levels effectively

Safety & Compliance:

  • Champion HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) standards and ensure compliance with all local, national, and international regulations.
  • Monitor and enforce safety procedures, conducting regular safety audits, risk assessments, and emergency drills.
  • Collaborate with the HSE team to drive continuous improvements in safety and environmental practices on offshore facilities

Risk Management:

  • Proactively identify, assess, and mitigate operational and maintenance risks associated with offshore activities.
  • Develop and execute contingency plans for emergency scenarios or equipment failures.

Budget and Resource Management:

  • Develop and manage the operational and maintenance budget, ensuring cost-effective operations without compromising safety or quality.
  • Allocate resources efficiently, balancing operational needs with available manpower and equipment

Regulatory & Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Ensure that all offshore operations and maintenance activities comply with relevant regulations and industry standards (e.g., API, ISO, OHSAS).
  • Liaise with regulatory authorities, auditors, and other stakeholders to ensure compliance and resolve any issues promptly.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Identify opportunities for optimization and efficiency improvements in operations and maintenance practices.
  • Drive the implementation of innovative technologies and best practices to enhance productivity and reduce operational costs


Qualifications, skills and experience required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field. Master's degree or professional certifications (e.g., PMP, NEBOSH) is a plus
  • Minimum of 10-15 years of experience in offshore oil and gas operations and maintenance, with at least 5 years in a leadership or senior management role.
  • Proven track record in managing offshore facilities and large operational teams.
  • Strong understanding of offshore safety and environmental regulations.
  • Experience with maintenance systems, budgeting, and resource management
  • Exceptional leadership and team management skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of offshore oil and gas operations, equipment, and systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle complex operational challenges.
  • Proficiency in using operations and maintenance management software

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus.
