It will be Canada's first large-scale lithium-ion battery production plant when it begins production at the Twin Oaks site in Windsor, Ontario. The manufacturing facility will have an annual targeted production capacity in excess of 49 gigawatt hours and will create an estimated 2,500 new jobs in Windsor and the surrounding areas. This state-of-the-art facility will be the first of its kind in Canada and is being built with the goal of becoming the foremost battery hub in North America. As a Health & Safety Specialist, your expertise in Ontario regulations, their applicability, risk assessment and control, program building, maintenance, data analysis, and process improvement will contribute significantly to the overall success of NextStar Energy.

Qualified candidates for this position will have experience in:
  • Health & Safety regulations, industry standards, and best practices
  • Risk assessment and hazard reduction programs
  • LOTO, confined space, air quality, designated substances, ergonomics, radiation safety, robot safety/guarding, PSRs, and other Health & Safety Programs
  • Manufacturing Experience.

Responsibilities:
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements (OH&S Act and Regulations)
  • Provide Health & Safety expertise and support to all facility stakeholders, including new equipment review, incident investigation, risk assessments, auditing, committees, training etc.
  • Develop and update Health & Safety policies, programs, processes, and training. When needed, effectively work with the appropriate facility personnel and/or contracted service providers to evaluate, build, update, and deploy. Responsible for validating effectiveness.
  • Utilize problem-solving methodologies to initiate projects that enhance H&S compliance and performance. Assess, monitor, implement programs to improve H&S performance, engaging and involving Team Leaders in the process.
  • Support the implementation and maintenance of the plant's EHS management system, meeting ISO 45001 requirements.
  • Other responsibilities as requested by the Health & Safety Manager and/or EHS Lead.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Safety, Engineering, Science or related field.
  • 8 + years of health & safety experience.
  • Strong understanding of health & safety regulations and requirements
  • Strong leadership, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong ability to communicate and work with all levels of the organization
  • Automotive or manufacturing experience
