Our team is seeking an Indigenous Health Promotion Facilitator to support the Indigenous Support Line, which is a provincial telephone support service available to Indigenous peoples in Alberta. This position is responsible for integrating health promotion into the Indigenous support Line and Health Link. This role would work in collaboration with other members of the ISL team and the Indigenous Wellness Core. The ISL's team is comprised of Indigenous Listeners (Mental Health Therapists), Clinical Supervisors, and a Senior Practice Consultant. The role helps to ensure that the ISL team has culturally safe strengths-based approaches, links to communities and works to educate the team and communities about the line. This position works to help with optimization and ensure that data from the line supports systemic change within the health care system. This position reports to the Clinical Manager, Specialized Teams (Indigenous Support Line and Addiction & Mental Health). This role acts as a resource to the Health Link leadership team by providing guidance, insight and direction for staff development priorities related to cultural safety, anti-Indigenous racism, and Indigenous cultural, linguistic, and holistic supports. The incumbent will collaborate with the Indigenous Wellness Core to ensure consistency and alignment of Indigenous cultural safety orientation and staff education programs across Health Link programs and to identify educational gaps/opportunities for educational program implementation and evaluation strategies. The selected candidate will be expected to work on-site to foster effective team collaboration and deliver optimal health link services. This position is part of Primary Care Alberta. As a Health Promotion Facilitator I, you will assist communities to be healthier through mentoring, advocacy and education. You will link individuals and/or communities to relevant health resources within the region or province and work with community partners to access, plan, implement and evaluate health promotion strategies. You will participate in special studies and/or research projects and review health-related data and identify trends relative to population health and at risk groups. You will facilitate the development and/or implementation of program specific guidelines in partnership with other stakeholders. You will plan, develop and facilitate workshops, seminars and presentations for staff and communities. You will prepare work plans, budgets and year end reports and provide input for departmental goals and strategies.
Completion of bachelor's degree in Health Promotion, Health Sciences, Health Education or a related field.
Additional Required Qualifications:
As a bona fide occupational requirement, and under Section 11 of the Alberta Human Rights Act, only Indigenous applicants will be considered. We encourage Indigenous candidates to self- identify. Minimum 3-5 years of direct clinical experience in working with Indigenous communities and/or organizations in a professional capacity. Experience in addiction and mental health in a variety of healthcare settings (e.g., urgent/emergent, acute, community). Competency in concurrent capable practice within addiction and mental health. Demonstrated leadership and teaching skills. Good understanding of the geographical challenges in certain services such mental health resources, internet and phone. Strong working knowledge of the Indigenous services and supports across the health system across the province and outside and the ability to locate resources that may be useful. Knowledge of and experience with Indigenous cultural safety and anti-racist competencies and practices. Experience working in a culturally diverse environment and from a Two-Eyed Seeing approach. Experience working from relationship-based, harm reduction, strengths based, and trauma-informed approaches. Experience in leading teams, adult education, and coaching required. Advanced computer skills essential, including working knowledge of the Microsoft 365 applications, Genesys (computer-based phone software); Echo Access (teletriage clinical assessment software and protocols). Preferred Qualifications:
Ability to speak or understand any of the Indigenous languages spoken within the territories of Treaty 6, Treaty 7, and Treaty 8 or the Metis Settlements of Alberta.
