The HSE Manager is a key role for the success of Blackstone Industrial Service and will successfully engaged with all our field teams and shop personnel. This is ideal for an individual that understands it is critical to be proactive in recognizing areas that require immediate attention, determine the solution and make all efforts to make the changes that improve all overall HSE management systems for both the company and the employee. The primary focus is the successful alignment of and implementation of our HSE management system ensuring quality, safety and manufacturing performance targets are met. The HSE Manager is the expert in their field and will maintain a high level of professional integrity while encouraging all peers to do so as well.

The HSE manager role is a dynamic role requiring regular travel to our remote field teams across north America ensuring our HSE expectations are met. The successful candidate will be located in the Edmonton region and possess a valid driver's license and passport.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Establish and maintain close working relationships with operations leaders, as well as other functions and senior management to ensure alignment on safety efforts throughout the Company.
  • Drive & sustain a culture that values pro-active and collaborative efforts with key stakeholders
  • Provide strategic direction and develop, implement and monitor HSE goals, objectives, priorities and procedures relating to the business units.
  • Develop policies and procedures to ensure compliance with legislation and client requirements
  • Conduct safety meetings and corporate updates; conduct monthly company wide safety performance audits
  • Maintain safety records and statistics; Record, Track and ensure trends are monitored
  • COR/ISN/Comply Works/WCB/Insurance; Ensure that BIS exceeds all requirements and maintains good standing for all
  • Competency evaluations and program/Training/Orientations/On-boarding; provide new and current employees with required safety training and orientations.
  • Subcontractors; Complete contractor evaluations and ensure they meet the BIS standard prior to work being carried out.
  • Provide Contractor and employee orientations;
  • Client Specific Safety Requests; ensure up to date records regarding client specific safety request.
  • Management safety meetings, present stats KPI's and overall safety plan for the company to the management team.
  • Comprehensive understanding of basic equipment service and repairs
  • Support field shop operations by
    • Hoisting training sessions
    • Conducting field performance Audits
    • FLHRA's, JSA's, Incident Reporting
  • Responds to & participates in the investigation of safety incidents management
  • Develops an effective communication process to make safety priorities and performance visible
  • Provides technical support for on-going problem solving and safety investigations
  • Provides resources and support to the site's joint health and safety committee
  • Provides on-the-floor safety coaching and recognition
  • Works with WCB on return to work strategies and claims management
  • Monitor changes to legislation which may impact the HSE Program
  • Ability to to handle sensitive information and maintain utmost confidentiality at all times with tact, diplomacy and integrity


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP)(CRSP) required
  • Certified Internal Auditor required
  • Post-Secondary Degree or Diploma in a related area of study preferred
  • Minimum 3 years managerial or supervisory role.
  • 10 years direct field related HSE supervision
  • Experience with WCB filing and compliance
  • Experience with leading the analysis to identify gaps/trends and variances
  • Experience with supporting the development and execution of HSE training programs
  • Conducting annual COR audits
