Description:

As a valued member of our team, the Health & Safety Director will provide strategic and tactical leadership for the company's health and safety program by developing a culture that focuses on loss control, fleet safety, safety and health compliance in all work performed. This critical position is responsible for the leadership, innovation, governance, and management necessary to identify, evaluate, mitigate, and monitor the company's operational, fleet, and health and safety compliance risk. As an influential hands-on leader, you will serve as the voice that engages all associates and provides constant and consistent messaging to create a world-class safety culture with strong performance.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. General days and hours of work are Monday through Friday but may require night and weekend work. Not eligible for remote work. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
Salary: $135k-155k

Essential Functions:
  • Directs, develops, and oversees the general health and safety policies and procedures of the organization.
  • Ensures the workplace complies with DOT, Cal-OSHA and other state, local, or industry specific regulations and that periodic safety inspections and audits are conducted.
  • Provides programs that ensure a safe workplace including safety orientations, skill training, emergency preparedness, proper job instruction, hazardous material disposal procedures, and the use of protective equipment.
  • Develops a systemic process to collect data and analyze the causes of accidents and generate required reporting.
  • Implements initiatives to reduce and prevent on the road-accidents, plant accidents, occupational illnesses, and exposure to long-term health hazards.
  • Provide strategy and organizational leadership including creating and communicating a vision on world-class safety and the strategic and tactical plans to achieve this status.
  • Create a strategy and action plan to drive performance-based safety accountability in the organization.
  • Research industry best practices and apply best practices to the organization as appropriate.
  • Implement tools and processes to analyze risk frequency and severity profile to provide focus and resource allocation for the organization.
  • Develop an organizational structure and define roles and responsibilities within the safety, fleet, and compliance functions to create maximum value at a reasonable cost.
  • Produce recommendations and ROI analysis to justify / quantify strategic investments in risk management, fleet safety, operational health and safety and compliance associates, programs and/or technology.
  • Review new business opportunities to assure business, operating models, safety policies, and existing driver forces meet corporate safety and policy-related mandates.
  • Provide safety leadership and performance including creation and implementation of safety policies and procedures, training programs, audits, inspection, and strategy for organizational development.
  • Partner with Human Resources and other departments to establish minimum safety-related hiring criteria for driver screening.
  • Own and monitors the incident review guidelines for fleet safety, operation health and safety, and compliance related performance.
  • Ensure the company complies with all state, federal, and all other government/regulatory reporting requirements. Implements policies and policy changes as mandated by changes in laws and regulations.
  • Actively participates in training and committees related to accident, injury, and emergency response plans.
  • Lead and manage fleet and operational compliance - including local, state, and federal relationships. Develop and apply strategies that establish legal and reporting compliance.
  • Assists and supports the claims management team to monitor and manage claims categorized as injuries, accident, and emergencies.
  • Lead and direct safety and compliance team including establishing responsibilities, manage goal setting and performance management.
  • Responsible for coordinating the management of the Dash-cam program across the organization including developing policies and procedures on reporting, escalation, investigation, and root cause analysis for fleet incidents.

Travel Required: Up to 25% - 50%.

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in health and safety, construction safety or related field required.
  • 5+ years of managerial experience in a similar industry (Ready Mixed).
  • 5+ years of ready mixed plant health and safety experience, transportation industry experience including general DOT fleet safety requirements.
  • Experience with Dashcam systems.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or similar certification a plus.
  • 5+ years of managerial experience in regional or national role with multi-site experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in a corporate health and safety role.

Compensation: $135,000.00 - $155,000.00 per year
