Harlem Hospital Center has been a bedrock of the Harlem community since 1887. The hospital provides a wide range of medical, surgical, diagnostic, therapeutic and family support services to the residents of Central Harlem, West Harlem, Washington Heights and Inwood. Job Description
Under direction, with wide latitude for the exercise of independent initiative and judgment, supervises a Pharmacy unit and/or performs as a specialty clinical pharmacist in a hospital, clinic or other health care setting. In addition to performing the duties of Assignment Level I at a more responsible level, the following are typical tasks performed as Assignment Level II.
Duties & Responsibilities
1. Supervises and/or coordinates the operation of a Pharmacy unit or major function.
2. Prepares departmental reports, including the performance of statistical analyses.
3. Develops and implements new processes to improve the operation of the Pharmacy and the quality of care provided.
4. Orients new staff members.
5. Monitors and evaluates staff performance and follows appropriate disciplinary proceedings, as necessary.
6. Prepares unit work schedule. Ensures staff compliance with regulatory agency and health care setting rules and regulations.
7. Responsible for the maintenance of adequate quantities of medication and other supplies in the Pharmacy unit.
8. Evaluates new drugs released by the FDA in terms of efficacy, adverse effect profile, and cost; makes recommendations on additions and deletions to the health care setting's drug formulary
9. Manages the medication therapy of a group or unit of patients as part of an interdisciplinary team and participates in rounds.
10. Coordinates the assessment of medication use.
11. Serves as a professional and technical resource for medical professionals in specialty area(s).
Minimum Qualifications
For Assignment to Level I
1. Possession of a valid NY State license to practice pharmacy.
For Assignment to Level II
In addition to meeting the qualification requirements of the lower level:
1. Two (2) years of post-licensure experience; or
2. Completion of a post-graduate specialty residency or fellowship program; or
3. Current Pharmacy Board Certification.
