Harlem Hospital Center has been a bedrock of the Harlem community since 1887. The hospital provides a wide range of medical, surgical, diagnostic, therapeutic and family support services to the residents of Central Harlem, West Harlem, Washington Heights and Inwood. Harlem is the largest hospital in the area, capable of treating the most seriously ill. Harlem provides over 90 specialized ambulatory care services, dentistry and oral surgery, behavioral health services, and community substance abuse treatment.

Duties & Responsibilities
1. Supervisors and/or coordinates the daily operation the Pharmacy unit.
2. Responsible for routine tasks performed during the Tour, including staff management, daily work assignments, monthly staff schedule and addresses time & leave issues.
3. In the absence of Supervisor, may assist in the supervision of the pharmacy unit or function
4. Maintains pharmacy services in accordance with departmental standards and government laws and regulations.
5. Interact with the medical and nursing staff to solve problem and enhance the care provided to the patient's at Harlem Hospital Center
6. Orients new staff members
7. Ensures staff compliance with regulatory agency and hospital rules and regulations
8. Responsible for the maintenance of adequate quantities of medication and other supplies in the Pharmacy unit.
9. Serves as a professional and technical resources for medical professionals in specialty area(s)
10. Oversees and resolves issues encountered by staff and will communicate to Supervisor as well as Administration (when needed)
11. Operates and troubleshoots automated dispensing system (PYXIS) as needed
12. Fills prescriptions and patient orders, resolves discrepancies in patient therapy, and follow-up on problems.
13. Utilizes clinical data in evaluating physician orders to ensure appropriate therapy.
14. Documents interventions, adverse drug reactions (ADRs), and medication errors as required by the Institution.
15. Advises prescribers on alternatives for non-formulary drugs.
16. Utilizes Outpatient and Inpatient computerized systems to enter and access patient care information.
17. Provides and documents drug information and patient counseling.
18. Promote professionalism and continually strive to raise the level of professional practice
Minimum Qualifications
For Assignment to Level I
1. Possession of a valid NY State license to practice pharmacy.
For Assignment to Level II
In addition to meeting the qualification requirements of the lower level:
1. Two (2) years of post-licensure experience; or
2. Completion of a post-graduate specialty residency or fellowship program; or
3. Current Pharmacy Board Certification
