Job Description

Purpose:

Under the supervision of the Director of Pharmacy, performs assigned duties involving any of the following:
Reviewing medication orders, filling prescriptions, and dispensing medications that comply with all applicable federal, state, and hospital policies, procedures, codes and standards. Performs supervisory, clinical and administrative duties in a professional manner with varying degrees of latitude for independent initiative and judgement.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
  • The Health Systems Pharmacist Level II is charged with and responsible for:
  • Displays knowledge of appropriate drug therapy.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the department and how it fulfills its role in the hospital's mission.
  • Demonstrates the ability, through various leadership qualities, to effectively supervise pharmacy personnel.
  • Supervises the activities of pharmacy personnel to insure the accurate completion of assigned tasks.
  • In a supervisory capacity, demonstrates the ability to appropriately review medication orders for accuracy, completeness, and potential interactions or incompatibilities.
  • In a supervisory capacity, appropriately reviews and interprets medication orders paying attention to detail to insure the accurate dispensing of medications.
  • Demonstrates the ability to effectively operate the Pharmacy computer system and other equipment utilized for routine tasks.
  • Maintains accurate and complete records and statistics of departmental activities.
  • Demonstrates the ability to maintain an appropriate level of inventory and control of pharmaceuticals, supplies and other materials.
  • Conducts orientation/in-service training and other clinical activities for pharmacy personnel.
  • Participates in inter-departmental activities, committees, meetings, and other functions as required.
  • Demonstrates the ability to correctly compound medications, prepare IV admixtures, TPN, and medications used for chemotherapy.
  • Will rotate within all pharmacy service areas.


Minimum Qualifications
1. Possession of a valid NY State license to practice pharmacy.
2. Two years of post licensure experience; or
3. Completion of a post graduate specialty residency or fellowship program; or
4. Current Pharmacy Board Certification.
