Helicopter Pilot
Examples of Duties
Conducts flight operations in compliance with applicable Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs), the Aeronautical Information Manual (AIM), The Aircraft Flight Manual (AFM) and the unit's Standard Operating Procedures Manual (SOPs). Completes assigned flight missions with guardianship and the discretion to divert from an assigned mission in the interest of safety. Conducts pre- and post-flight inspections of assigned aircraft and related equipment. Reports all aircraft mechanical, electrical, or avionics problems. Arranges and supervises servicing of the aircraft with the proper grades of fuel and oil. Makes personal appearances at civic functions to explain the services of the Aviation Unit and to answer questions regarding airborne law enforcement. Completes and maintains logs in a neat and timely manner in accordance with the SOPs. Prepares detailed reports on special flights or significant events as necessary. Maintains aircraft flight proficiency in assigned aircraft. Maintains a thorough knowledge of applicable FARs, the AIM, the AFM, and the unit's SOPs for all unit operations and all other knowledge areas required by the Practical Test Standards for a commercial pilot. Keeps an original commercial certificate and a current third class medical certificate in his/her possession when assigned crewmember duty. Performs other job-related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
A High School Diploma or GED is required. An FAA Commercial Rotorcraft/Helicopter License is required. A minimum of 1000 hours of helicopter flight time to include 500 hours in turbine aircraft is required. Experience in 500 series aircraft is preferred. A valid State of Ohio Driver's License and a valid FAA Third Class Medical Certificate are required. Must have proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).
