What You Will Contribute To Altos

The Research Associate/ Senior RA candidate should have extensive experience in histology sample preparation for IHC, IF, and ISH staining and imaging modalities. The Research Associate will play a key role in expanding the capabilities and capacity of histology operations to advance larger R&D initiatives.

Responsibilities
  • Provide robust and reproducible histology sample preparation including tissue processing, embedding, sectioning, and histological staining - (human and animal frozen and FFPE tissues and cell culture/organoids)
  • Develop, qualify, and apply specialized assay protocols, including immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization, and immunoflourescence assays to support research objectives
  • Independent operation of specialized equipment, including sectioning equipment and auto-stainers, and troubleshooting when issues occur.
  • Oversee sample tracking, data entry, and data management within the group.
  • Qualify and quantify control existing assay and staining methods
  • Work with the team lead and vendors to upgrade, customize and maintain instrumentation
  • Maintain specimen inventories and laboratory records
  • Assist with creating and optimizing SOPs and technical training materials
  • Assist with new user trainings
Who You Are

Minimum Qualifications
  • Previous experience in a biological/medical/pharmaceutical research setting
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience
  • Competency with tissue preparation, grossing, and embedding. Have advanced microtomy skills (cryo and paraffin cutting) and extensive experience staining (H&E, special stains and IHC).
  • Experience working with various tissues and a proven ability to troubleshoot difficult tissues.
  • Experience supporting scientists within a team or core environment.
  • Capable of managing lab projects and ability to clearly follow instructions, keeping to timelines and agreed outcomes.
  • Have an ability to perform experiments acutely and reproducibly.
  • Be an excellent team player and be excited about collaborating.
  • Strong communication skills, with proven ability to work as part of a diverse team.
  • Ability to multitask and work across projects and groups with flexibility to react to changing priorities
  • Meticulous attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications
  • BS or MS in Biology or related field
  • Histotechnology Certification
  • Experience with digital image analysis
  • Prior experience in advanced techniques e.g. RNAscope and/or spatial omics
  • Previous work with bone, skin, liver, lung, and/or muscle samples.
  • Previous work with human tissue.
  • High level of computer literacy and ability to maintain an electronic lab notebook
  • Experience working within in a centralized scientific resource facility

The salary range for San Diego, CA:

Research Associate II: $89,760 - $117,300

Senior Research Associate: $103,840 - $135,700

Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location.
