Job Title: Technician
Job Specialty: Histology
Job Duration: 13 Weeks
Shift: 8:30 PM to 5:00 AM (Midnights)
Guaranteed Hours: 40.00
Experience: Must have at least one year of experience as a Histology Technician within the last 12 months.
License: Not Required
Certifications: HT(ASCP) certification preferred
Must-Have: Completion of an Associate's Degree with coursework in Anatomy, Biology, and/or Chemistry, OR a Bachelor's Degree in medical technology, medical laboratory sciences, clinical laboratory sciences, Chemistry, Microbiology, or Biology, OR a High School Diploma or G.E.D. with two years of relevant laboratory experience.
Job Description:
- Perform routine techniques on surgical, autopsy, and research tissue following standardized procedures.
- Operate and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment required for analysis.
- Cut surgical, autopsy, research, and neuropathology tissue using a rotary microtome.
- Embed surgical, autopsy, research, and neuropathology tissue.
- Stain, coverslip, and label surgical, autopsy, research, and neuropathology tissue.
- Perform special stains under supervision according to standardized procedures.
- Maintain all equipment and instruments, and may demonstrate work to onboard others.
- Mix and maintain all solutions including stains and special fixatives.
- Maintain and record all QC, CAP, QA instrument function, and maintenance records.
- Keep an updated inventory of all reagents and supplies.
- Adhere to standard work for all job duties and report deviations for correction.
- Participate in data collection and quality improvement efforts.
- Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
Skills:
- Vision Near Acuity: Ability to see clearly at 20 inches or less.
- Depth Perception: Ability to judge distance and space relationships.
- Accommodation: Ability to adjust vision to bring objects into focus.
- Color Vision: Ability to distinguish and identify different colors necessary to perform job functions.
