Job Description
PURPOSE OF POSITION
Under the supervision of the director, this position encompasses professional, clinical, supervisory and administrative work of varying degrees with latitude for independent initiative and judgment.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Assists the Director in coordination of staffing activities and the supervision of the overall operation of the pharmacy department.
2. Supervise and/or coordinate the operation of a subdivision of the pharmacy such as Unit Dose Satellite, Outpatient pharmacy, Inpatient pharmacy, Total Parenteral Nutrition and Oncology, Drug Information, Investigational drugs and Procurement of drugs and ROBOT.
3. Assist in the Performance Improvement and Performance Evaluation Activities.
4. Proficient in Outpatient and Inpatient computerized system and any other Pharmacy computer system.
5. Maintain a complete patient profile
Inpatient profile- diagnosis, drug allergies, weight; outpatient
Outpatient profile - drug allergies
6. Knowledgeable of Federal, State and local laws concerning the filling and dispensing of medications and orders.
7. Provide Patient counseling and education to outpatient and discharge patients
8. Able to compound and manufacture prescriptions and orders.
9. Review drug-drug, drug-food and drug-lab interactions.
10. Fill unit dose cassettes.
11. Review and Profile drug orders.
12. Fill and replenish C-Locker Carts, Emergency Boxes and Code Cart Trays, etc.
13. Able to communicate well with other health professionals.
14. Suggest and Intervene on Problematic Drug Orders.
15. Assist in maintaining accurate and complete records and statistics of departmental activities.
16. Assist in the coordination of the monthly inspection of patient care units and pharmacy.
17. Knowledge in the maintaining and replenishing of the Omnicell.
18. Provide up-to-date drug information.
19. Assist in the daily day-to-day operation of the pharmacy including delegation of daily responsibilities to staff members.
20. Assist in preparing reports.
21. Assist in the maintenance of pharmacy inventory.
22. Orient new staff members to the policies and procedures of the department.
23. Assist in the training of new staff members to the various pharmacy functions.
24. Supervise the procurement function, including proper receipt and storage of supplies and maintaining a perpetual inventory of medications.
25. Participate in IRB Drug Research Programs.
26. Perform any other work related to the Pharmacy department.
27. Assist in keeping the pharmacy in a neat and orderly fashion.
Minimum Qualifications
For Assignment to Level I 1. Possession of a valid NY State license to practice pharmacy. For Assignment to Level II In addition to meeting the qualification requirements of the lower level: 1. Two (2) years of post-licensure experience; or 2. Completion of a post-graduate specialty residency or fellowship program; or 3. Current Pharmacy Board Certification. For Assignment to Level III In addition to meeting the qualification requirements of the lower levels, an additional: 1. One (1) year of post-licensure supervisory experience or specialty clinical experience.
