Samaritan Health Services (SHS) seeks an innovative and strategic leader to serve as its Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Corvallis, OR.
Established in 1913, Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center is one of five Level II trauma centers in Oregon. It is the largest hospital in Benton, Lincoln, and Linn counties, with 2600 employees and 188 beds. It offers dozens of medical specialties, including comprehensive cancer care, a full-service cardiology and cardiovascular surgery program, neurosurgery, orthopedic and spine surgery, inpatient mental health, and other regional services.
The Good Sam CEO:
1. Maintains positive relations with governmental authorities. Represents the needs of SHS and advocates for the needs of clients to finding and regulatory bodies at the local, state, and federal levels. Ensures compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
2. Maintains positive community relations. Communicates effectively and regularly with other providers and interested citizens regarding issues affecting the community and clients. Advocates for the unmet needs of clients. Takes active steps to educate the local public regarding issues related to SHS services. Encourages liaison activities by all staff with representatives of local government, other providers, community members and members of the press when appropriate. Actively works to promote cooperative activities between SHS and other community service providers. Participates in community, county and state professional organizations, boards, associations, and programs.
3. Maintains property and resources well. Maintains in good repair the fixed assets and physical facilities used by hospital. Ensures that sufficient facility space is available to appropriately house all hospital staff and programs, and coordinates efforts to maximize the efficient use of available space. Plans for long-term future space needs.
4. Maintains affiliation with professional associations relevant and beneficial to the successful operation of hospital and SHS.
5. Maintains working relationship with community agencies and participates in community projects, which are in the best interests of the organization.
6. Accountability:
a. Reports all significant problems, events, and occurrences on a timely basis.
b. Consults routinely to clarify policy and departmental goals and objectives.
c. Obtains authorization from the President/Chief Executive Officer of the system in all matters that require his or her authority and sanction.
7. Participates in activities of professional associations.
As a critical member of the leadership team, the CEO must be a self-starter and collaborative leader with excellent communication skills. Candidates must show demonstrated experience of their ability to quickly grasp the regulatory environment and other complexities and trends unique to the healthcare industry and have experience meeting and exceeding budgets. The CEO must be a skilled communicator, possess an instinct for win-win solutions. They will proactively engage and develop relationships with colleagues to ensure that the interests of all constituents are understood and represented.
EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS
1. Master`s degree required.
2. Membership in a professional organization required.
3. Eight (8) years in healthcare administration with appropriately increasing responsibility required.
4. Experience or training demonstrating a broad understanding of the health care environment and issues unique to that environment required.
5. Experience or training analyzing, organizing, prioritizing, and making critical decisions required.
6. Experience or training communicating (both written and verbal) with people under a wide array of circumstances required.
