Position Summary

We are looking for an experienced Underwriter to join a newly formed team to help develop, manage and grow a book of complex healthcare professional liability accounts - always with the goal of maintaining long term profitability. The ideal candidate will have:
  • excellent analytical, negotiation and communication skills,
  • experience underwriting excess professional liability on an insurance and reinsurance basis, and
  • good relationships with regional and national brokerage firms.


This is a ground floor opportunity with significant growth potential for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze and underwrite large and complex healthcare risks to determine the appropriate structure, terms and conditions required to profitably write the account.
  • Carefully review underlying and/or captive policy wording to assess the risk assumed and the need for manuscript endorsements.
  • Work closely with the Actuarial team to determine pricing.
  • Manage the end to end underwriting process of quoting, binding and policy issuance.
  • Cultivate relationships with internal and external contacts to facilitate the underwriting process, promote business development, and to remain abreast of industry trends.
  • Serve as a resource to other departmental staff with regards to underwriting procedures and departmental guidelines.

Position Knowledge, Skills, and Requirements

Experience
  • 5 Years Relevant underwriting or broking experience in HPL or related fields. Experience with large account underwriting, loss rating and form analysis are a plus.


Education
  • Minimum 4 Year / Bachelor's Degree


Certification, Licenses and Designations
  • Studies toward attaining a Registered Professional Liability Underwriter (RPLU), Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Associate in Commercial Underwriting (AU), Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) or equivalent insurance designation depending on specialty area


Other
  • Possess and have ability to apply broad knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills with an emphasis on confidentiality, tact, and diplomacy

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

Travel Requirements
  • 25% - 50% of time
  • Driver's License Required
  • Passport not required
