Job Description
The University of Alabama Birmingham, Heersink School of Medicine, Department of Surgery is currently recruiting faculty candidates as Associate Chief, UAB Burn Service in the Division of Trauma & Acute Care Surgery. Recruitment is for an open rank/open tenure earning faculty applicant with a M.D. or D.O. degree at all ranks. The successful candidate will be expected to meet clinical, research and teaching needs, as applicable, in the Department of Surgery. The UAB Burn Service is high volume, with >2,100 outpatient visits and >400 inpatient admissions per year, with ~50 patients having severe (>20% TBSA) burns. The service also surgically treats a large number of complex, non-thermal wounds. UAB Hospital is the only Level I Trauma Center verified by the American College of Surgeons in the state of Alabama and is a major treatment center in the southeastern U.S. for patients suffering traumatic injury. The Division is engaged in active research related to improving the fields of trauma, burn, emergency general surgery and surgical critical care and has an active Military-Civilian Partnership with the United States Air Force. The Division also houses a Surgical Critical Care Fellowship program that is ACGME accredited and accepts four fellows per year.In addition to our focus on patient care, we also provide an environment that supports the education of health professionals and encourages advanced research to further medical science.
