Overview of Position
The primary focus of this position is employee leave case management. The Leave Analyst approves and processes all leaves of absence for the District; including FMLA and non-FMLA health, family health, On the Job Injuries, and long-term leaves. This is a highly analytical position, requiring a thorough knowledge of Federal and State laws as well as unique leave provisions contained in over a dozen collective bargaining agreements.

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION:
A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Three (3) years of work experience in human resources or benefits administration; Bachelor's degree with emphasis or significant coursework in Human Resources; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Any equivalent combination of education, experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the work will be considered.
DESIRED CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES:
PHR or SPHR preferred

Criminal Justice fingerprinting and background check.

- Processes District employee leaves of absence and ensures proper documentation is received from the employee, leave requirements are met, and leave of absence transactions are entered accurately in the HRIS system
- Maintains up-to-date, accurate and complete confidential leave files.
- Communicates all leave rights and responsibilities to employees and managers concerning leave status, job protection period, payroll, accrual balances and benefit status.

- Engages in difficult conversations, effectively educating and counseling employees, managers and administrators regarding leave inquiries, employee rights and District policies and processes.
- Advises management and staff on leave qualifications, and requirements in accordance with Federal and State laws and applicable collective bargaining agreements.
- Works collaboratively with the HR department processing and tracking employee leaves to successfully fulfill payroll and staffing needs.

- Communicates on a timely basis with the District's third-party insurance broker and worker's compensation administrator to ensure ongoing and appropriate administration of employee leaves, pay and benefits during leaves of absence or on the job injury periods.

- Remains knowledgeable of all applicable State and Federal leave and disability laws and regulations. Remain well versed in leave of absence language within all District collective bargaining agreements.
- Works collaboratively with the Employee Labor and Legal departments concerning job abandonment issues, complex leave scenarios, and ADA accommodation as they apply to potential leave of absence events.

- Assists in the development of leave of absence operating procedures and documentation processes to facilitate continuous process improvement and effective and informative employee and management communications.

- Intermediate proficiency of SAP
- Intermediate proficiency using Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel and Outlook
- Full working knowledge of applicable State and Federal laws, District policies and collective bargaining agreements pertaining to leaves of absence and disability accommodation
- Basic understanding of medical terminology to enable interpretation of technical medical reports and facilitate understanding of potential ADA accommodation.
