This is a fantastic opportunity to help build a new team for the existing facility and the new state-of-the-art facility from the ground up. The new Speros campus will have a 30,000 sqft Comparative Medicine state-of-the-art Facility, which will complement MCC's existing, fully accredited 28,000 sqft facility.

Position Highlights:

Moffitt is building a new Comparative Medicine Core (CMC) and is seeking a Husbandry Operations Manager. As a key member of the CMC team, the Husbandry and Operations Manager leads the daily management of the animal care staff and oversight of a Comparative Medicine Core facility. Supports the highest standard of animal welfare.

Responsibilities:
  • Facility Oversight
  • Develop and monitor Standard Operating Procedures for animals housed on campus.
  • Ensure animal care supervisors have the appropriate knowledge and training to ensure proper maintenance and minor repairs on equipment and in their facility, as well as alerting the Facilities Maintenance team as appropriate.
  • Customer-centric environment throughout the facility. Address and resolve problems or questions from investigative staff concerning the facility or animal care in general.
  • Staff Oversight
  • Manages of animal care employees in the assigned facilities employee(s).
  • Completes yearly performance evaluations for staff, review and approve direct evaluation.
  • Manages onboarding including orientation and training of animal care staff covering in the assigned facilities as well as investigators and research support staff. Provides training and mentorship at room level. Provides direction and coaches to improve team member and department.
  • Regulatory Oversight/Recordkeeping
  • Responsible for participating in bi-annual inspections with the IACUC and attending the USDA walk thru and participates in generating responses.
  • Maintain the facilities following rules and regulations outlined by the Animal Welfare Act (USDA) and the Guide for Care and Use of Laboratory Animals.

Credentials and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in business or animal science or related field is required with five (5) years direct research animal care experience, inclusive of:
    • three (3) years direct supervisory experience.
  • Master's degree in laboratory animal science is preferred.
  • Laboratory Animal Technician (LATG) certification
  • Candidate must obtain the Laboratory Animal Technician (LATG) certification within two (2) years of assuming position.
  • Must enroll in Certified Manager Animal Resources (CMAR) certification within 18 months of starting position.
  • Familiar with research protocols
  • Knowledge of research animal husbandry and diets
  • Ability to work with animals exposed to various hazards: chemical, biological, radiation.
  • Understand rodent colony and breeding colony management.
  • Word processing

  • Organized work habits
