The HVAC Estimator is responsible for generating precise pricing estimates for bid quotations and bid packages, providing crucial information to management. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in preparing cost estimates for turnkey HVAC/mechanical projects or services, aiding management in pricing decisions. This role requires a well-organized, hands-on individual who is self-motivated and dependable, with a strong drive to thrive in a challenging and fast-paced environment.

Job Functions:
  • Prepare detailed estimates for large-scale plan/spec and design/build commercial HVAC projects.
  • Analyze blueprints, construction drawings, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates.
  • Use QuickPen Trimble AutoBid software for estimating and takeoff processes.
  • Quantitative take-off and computer entry
  • Prepare scope letters and proposals.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of local codes and regulations.
  • Coordinate with sales and engineering teams to understand project scope and requirements.
  • Sustain relationships with suppliers, contractors, clients, and stakeholders to facilitate the estimating process.
  • Update and maintain a database of standard costing and other relevant information.
  • Maintain estimating logs and unit costs for all projects.
  • Perform site surveys and attend pre-bid walkthroughs as required.
  • Comply with all Controlled Air operating policies, procedures, and safety programs as established.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, or equivalent related experience in those fields.
  • 5 + years of estimating experience in the HVAC industry with a proven track record is required.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, operations, and industry best practices.
  • Proficient with QuickPen Trimble AutoBid software.
  • Excellent understanding of local codes and regulations.
  • Exceptional communication and negotiation skills.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills, deadline and detail-oriented
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, (i.e. Outlook, Word and Excel)
  • Familiarity with project management/document control software.
  • Familiarity with construction/financial software packages.
  • Experienced with electrical estimating and combined heat power (CHP) a plus.
