About the Role
Coordinates and administers the Institution's Animal Care and Use Committee to ensure that the animal use program and facilities comply with federal, state, and local regulations. Provide advice and assist investigative staff as needed with writing of protocols, questions pertaining to applicable regulations, and ensuring timely distribution and review of protocols to IACUC membership. Coordinate investigations of animal welfare concerns that may arise. Supervise IACUC Coordinator(s).

What You'll do Here
Maintains Good Laboratory Practices (GLP)
Serves the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), including participation in evaluations and recommendations regarding compliance with laws, regulations, and ethical and safety standards
Guides the implementation of IACUC procedures and discussions regarding the animal care and use program
Reviews, develops, implements, and maintains IACUC procedures and policies
Develops SOPs and work instruction documents for IACUC administrative procedures
Assists Study Directors in developing and writing research protocols relative to IACUC and regulatory compliance issues
Provides orientation and training to new IACUC members and new staff
Provides ongoing training to staff
Interprets and applies federal, state, and local laws and regulations, and institutional policies and guidelines relevant to use of animals in research, teaching, and testing for all species used or housed
Prepares annual reports for the USDA, AAALAC and OLAW and supports compilation of the program description for AAALAC
Responds to information requests regarding the compliance status as it relates to animal care and use laws and regulations
Provides clients with certification of reviews and approvals of animal use protocols for funding agencies
Works on assignments in support of Laboratory Animal Resources and the IACUC to ensure the success and efficiency of resource management, study conduct and regulatory compliance
Interviewing, hiring, and training employees
Planning, assigning, and directing work
Appraising performance rewarding and disciplining employees
Addressing complaints and resolving problems

What You'll Need to Succeed
College degree or equivalent
2+ years working with animal care and use regulations in a GLP environment
2+ years leadership experience
CPIA preferred or ability to gain certification within 2 years
Intermediate Microsoft Office suite skills and understanding of database structures and functionality
English proficiency to read and interpret industry documents, write routine reports and correspondence and speak effectively to groups of customers or employees
Basic math skills
Skills in scientific writing or electronic publishing desired
Able to interpret and administer a variety of instructions furnished in written and oral form
Able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables
Able to make decisions, including when to take a decision to management, under stressful, high-pressure situations, particularly as it applies to prioritization
Demonstrates attention to detail
AALAS certification preferred
Experience in regulatory compliance in a research animal facility preferred

What We Offer:

The pay range estimated for this position is $77,969 to $88,000 per year. Please note that hourly rates/salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, prior relevant experience, skills, education, certification, location as well as internal equity and market data.
