Summary/Description:
QED is looking for an Imaging Specialist to support federal agency records information management (RIM) efforts. All agency business functions produce records that must be maintained throughout their lifecycle. Records are comprised of administrative, mission, and policy documents. They have varying degrees of sensitivity. Few of the agency's holdings have permanent electronic retention, but several collections must be maintained for decades. The Imaging Specialist will collaborate with IT and the RIM team to integrate imaging solutions and implement strategies for preserving the integrity of digital images over time.

Specific Duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Assess the current scanning equipment and digitize paper records on site.
- Assess the current scanning equipment to determine if it meets NARA requirements for digitization.
- Identify any gaps or areas of improvement in the existing scanning capabilities.
- Make recommendations If new scanners are required after assessing the existing scanning equipment.
- Ensure seamless digitization hardware and software integration with existing RIM systems.
- Digitize paper records using NARA guidelines, ensuring clarity, legibility, and data accuracy.
- Implement measures to handle fragile or oversized documents carefully during the scanning process.
- Apply appropriate file formats and compression techniques to optimize storage and retrieval.
- Establish protocols to ensure data integrity is maintained throughout the digitization process.
- Implement security measures to safeguard sensitive information, including encryption and access control.
- Categorize digitized records according to a standardized and easily navigable system.
- Apply metadata tags to facilitate quick and accurate retrieval of specific records.
- Institute rigorous quality control checks at various stages to validate the accuracy and completeness of digitized records.
- Implement a feedback loop for continuous improvement based on quality control findings.
- Support the creation of a Quality Management Plan that ensures the digitization of temporary and permanent records meets Quality Assurance and Quality Control guidelines per 36 CFR 1236.44 and 1236.46.
- Establish digitization procedures that include gathering and preserving metadata, validating digitization, and disposing of source records.
Required Education and Skills:
- Bachelor's Degree preferred
- Must have at least 5+ years of experience in imaging technologies, specializing in efficient digitization, metadata organization, and strategic workflow integration
- Must be proficient in using advanced scanning equipment and software to convert physical documents into digital formats following NARA requirements
- Must be an expert in associating metadata with digitized images for efficient indexing, searchability, and retrieval
