Job Title: Nurse Manager, Emergency Department

Shift: Evenings 4 PM to 12 AM, 5x8

Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours

Experience: Minimum of five years of nursing experience in management or supervision within an Emergency Department

License: Current license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse

Certifications: BLS, ACLS, & PALS

Must-Have: Experience in the Emergency Department, Master's Degree in Nursing, leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills

Job Description:

- The Nurse Manager of the Emergency Department assumes 24-hour responsibility for the comprehensive assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care.
- Oversight and direction for the emergency department are core responsibilities, including accountability for planning, directing, leading, and evaluating nursing care.
- Foster a collaborative and respectful environment among all healthcare team members.
- Weekend and holiday coverage as required.
- Develops long-term unit staffing schedules to ensure adequate coverage.
- Monitors unit operational performance metrics, such as agency and turnover costs.
- Oversees daily workflow, staffing, orientation, training, and development within the department.
- Promote and support a collaborative team in providing care for all emergency and trauma patients.
- Support and interpret hospital policies, procedures, and objectives.
- Monitor and implement plans to improve customer satisfaction scores.
- Responsible for investigating patient, physician, and staff complaints/concerns and working towards resolution.
- Collaborate with nursing leadership to establish and evaluate compliance with nursing care standards.
- Maintain a safe and caring environment conducive to positive health teaching and maintenance.
- Participate in the overall planning process for the service.
- Conduct monthly staff meetings to address equipment, scheduling, goals, objectives, and performance metrics.
- Educate and evaluate staff, working with Human Resources as needed for counseling, discipline, and termination.
- Educate staff on new and existing departmental procedures and systems.
- Create and maintain an atmosphere of respect and courtesy among patients, staff, and colleagues.
