Job Description:
- Plan, develop, implement, administer, and evaluate the Infection Prevention program.
- Set and meet infection prevention specific goals and participate in department goal selection and completion.
- Facilitate initiatives to reduce and prevent healthcare-acquired and community-acquired infections.
- Develop, implement, and update infection prevention and control policies and procedures.
- Oversee activities of the Infection Control Committee and serve on the Patient Safety Team.
- Comply with regulatory requirements including Joint Commission, CDC, OSHA, FDA, and others.
- Responsible for the entity-wide infection prevention and surveillance program, including outpatient facilities.
- Perform ongoing assessment for risks of acquiring and transmitting infectious agents.
- Assist in follow-up of potential exposures to staff, patients, and visitors as necessary.
- Monitor significant epidemiological issues among employees and patient populations.
- Develop systems for identifying, reporting, investigating, and controlling infections and communicable diseases; maintain a database.
- Oversee and consult on cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization processes throughout the facility.
- Assure preventive, surveillance, and control procedures related to sterilization, disinfection, and cleaning practices.
- Report findings to committees such as surgical medical staff after checks are done.
- Provide an Infection Control Risk Assessment prior to remodeling or construction, conduct ongoing surveillance of the project.
- Review monitoring and maintenance of the water system and report to appropriate committees.
- Use an epidemiological approach to perform surveillance for infection control concerns, including detecting, evaluating, and tracking healthcare-associated infections, preparing reports, and coordinating follow-up.
- Maintain professional certification through the Certified Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology, and stay current with epidemiology and infectious diseases.
- Disseminate pertinent information to clinical departments and medical staff in a timely fashion.
- Educate hospital leaders and associates on infection prevention and control principles and practices.
- Design and implement educational presentations on infection control and prevention standards.
- Serve as an internal consultant for all departments on infection prevention and control issues, including administration, leaders, physicians, and associates.
