Description
The City of Redding's Information Technology department is accepting applications to fill one full-time Information Technology Supervisor vacancy. Employees in this classification are required to work well with the public and employees of the City. Excellent trouble shooting, implementation and planning skills are required to be effective in this classification.
The ideal candidate is an experienced supervisor who understands the mission critical aspects of information technology operations for a municipality supporting governmental operations, public safety, and utility industries. He or she has significant amounts of hands-on success in the following areas: supervision of technical support staff, Oracle cloud software, data, application support and configuration, vendor management and associated application support, information system operations, network and cybersecurity best practices, and public sector procurement.

We are looking for someone to

  • Assist in developing and implementing goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and priorities for assigned section.
  • Plan, direct, coordinate, supervise and review the work of assigned personnel. Provide technical support for assigned section.
  • Assist in the preparation and monitoring of the budget; determine staffing needs as well as equipment, materials and supplies; assist in preparing equipment specifications. Procure and maintain inventory of necessary materials and supplies.
  • Respond to inquiries, problems or concerns from clients. Investigate and take corrective action.
  • Evaluate, recommend and participate in selection of hardware/software for the City's data processing needs.
  • Serve as liaison to user departments.

In addition to above, when assigned to Application Services:
  • Coordinate projects with the user community.
  • Support application software, both cloud and vendor applications.
  • Assist in database design and the implementation of new systems.

Qualifications we're looking for

Education, Experience, and Special Requirements:

Any combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.
  • Typical education would include a Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent in Computer Science, or equivalent combination of college and work experience.
  • Typical experience would include five years relevant experience in Information Technology, one year of which shall have been in a lead or supervisory capacity. Depending on assignment: one year information systems hardware and software implementation and maintenance.
  • Possession of the appropriate California driver's license, or the ability to acquire one within ten days of appointment.
  • Requires some work to be performed after normal working hours and is subject to being on call to solve system problems, provide back-up for staff, etc.

Selection Process: Final appointment is contingent upon:
  • Positive past employment references
  • Review of a driver history record (depending on position)
  • Passing a city paid fingerprint criminal conviction check (applicants 18 and older)
  • Passing of a pre-employment medical exam and drug and alcohol screening test (depending on position)
Veteran's Credit: Applicants who attach a copy of the DD-214 to their application indicating "Honorable Discharge" from military service and receive a passing score on the examination process will have two (2) additional points added to their final examination score.

Holidays:
An average of thirteen and a half per year. Fire Association covered employees receive a payment in lieu of holidays. Holiday compensation for Redding Peace Officers Association and Redding Police Managers Association employees has been converted to base pay.

Vacation:

Two weeks per year up to the fourth year of service, three weeks up to nine years of service, three and a half weeks up to fourteen years of service, four weeks up to nineteen years of service, four and a half weeks up to twenty-four years of service, five weeks after twenty-four years of service. For accrual rates for Fire Department shift employees, refer to MOU. Part-time and temporary employees may be eligible for some vacation/paid time off benefits.
Sick Leave:

Twelve working days of sick leave are accrued each year. Unused sick leave may be credited toward retirement. For accrual rates for Fire Department shift employees, refer to MOU.
Health Insurance:
Excellent medical, dental, vision, and life for employee and dependent, and long-term disability for employees.

Retirement:

Full-time employees are covered by CalPERS (formula is dependent on hire date and member status in CalPERS) and are not covered under the Social Security System.

Administrative Leave:
Management positions are eligible to receive 40 hours of administrative leave per calendar year as authorized by the department director; additional leave up to 40 hours may be granted by the City Manager.

Deferred Compensation Plans:
Available for interested employees.

Union Dues:
Some job classifications are represented by collective bargaining units, the employees of which may choose to join and pay union dues.
Part-Time Retirement Benefit Program:
Part-time, seasonal, and full-time temporary employees either participate in the Social Security System or the PARS Alternate Retirement System depending upon bargaining unit assignment.
