Infrastructure Engineering Manager - Oracle

As a Manager of Infrastructure Engineering, you'll raise up your team, helping develop individual careers and achieving goals, spotting and addressing common team problems, and coaching and mentoring those identified for potential company leadership. You'll work closely with stakeholders from product and design, and other engineering leaders, to provide high-quality, repeatable technology delivery for the digital engineering organization. You will make decisions based on business objectives and allocated resources, managing professional individual contributors and/or supervisors who exercise latitude and independence. You will establish operational objectives and work plans and delegate assignments to the team, and you may lead one or more departments or teams for the digital engineering organization.

As a Infrastructure Engineering Manager - Oracle you'll:

• Lead with a Strategic Vision: Guide a team of engineers to solve complex problems, leveraging their expertise in Oracle databases and automation to support critical systems like Ecommerce, Pharmacy, and Partner platforms. Create and execute technical roadmaps, delivering high-impact platform engineering initiatives.
• Oversee Automation Development: Direct the creation and enhancement of automation tools for Oracle Database Administration (DBA) tasks-such as provisioning, patching, and data refreshes-ensuring efficiency and reliability.

• Drive a Scalable DBaaS Platform: Manage the design and maintenance of a secure, cloud-based Database as a Service (DBaaS) platform, enabling scalability for H-E-B's digital growth.

• Champion Operational Excellence: Looks beyond existing methodologies to resolve complex issues often cross-functional in nature or with significant impact to the business. Ensure the team automates manual DBA processes, integrates observability (monitoring/alerting), and maintains advanced Oracle configurations like RAC, Data Guard, and GoldenGate.

• Support Software Delivery: Partner with development teams to align infrastructure enhancements with application deployments, accelerating innovation and resolving database-related issues through root cause analysis.

• Ensure System Reliability: Oversee proactive monitoring, performance tuning, backup/recovery, and on-call support and engage as needed to maintain production stability and minimize risks.

• Foster Team Growth: Mentor engineers, promote skill development in Oracle technologies and automation tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible, Python), and build a high-performing, collaborative team culture.
• Foster Radical Candor - Cultivate open and honest communication through radical candor, ensuring constructive feedback, transparency, ownership, and accountability.

• Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Work with Platform Engineering, Security, Networking, and Oracle Support to advocate for infrastructure needs and resolve critical issues.

• Uphold Standards: Enforce change management processes, address security vulnerabilities, and ensure compliance with H-E-B's technical and operational standards.

Who You Are:

• Experienced Leader: You have 5+ years in Software or Database or Infrastructure Engineering (preferably Oracle), with at least 2 years managing technical teams.

• Oracle Expertise: You understand Oracle databases (RAC, Data Guard, GoldenGate) and have overseen automation or cloud-based database solutions.

• Technical Acumen: You are familiar with automation tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible, Python), cloud environments, and CI/CD pipelines.

• People-Centric Manager: You excel at coaching engineers, resolving conflicts, and driving performance while maintaining a focus on business outcomes.

• Effective Communicator: You possess strong verbal and written skills to align teams and stakeholders effectively.
