Description

The Inpatient Medical Director (IMD) is the physician leader whose duties encompass all Polara inpatient functions, clinically overseeing all inpatient providers' (physicians and advanced practice providers) practices. The IMD role is to assure that clinical and safety outcomes meet organizational goals. Also, the IMD will provide direct patient care (80%) appropriately balanced with administrative duties (20%). The IMD shall partner with clinical operations leaders (Director of Nursing and site leaders) in a dyad fashion to assure balanced planning and decision making.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to, the following:
  • Support the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) assuring successful Medical Staff functions including reviewing medical staff membership processes, credentialing, privileging, and peer review.
  • Oversee and manage inpatient providers' practices monitoring quality, productivity, efficiency, and engagement.
  • Assure the inpatient Medical Staff providers are compliant with all regulations and accreditation elements of performance. Active participation in all accreditation activities and surveys related to the Joint Commission and other regulatory agencies.
  • Regularly update inpatient providers and other clinical staff on best practices for safe quality client/patient care through education and an influence model. This will particularly include assuring that suicide risk processes and documentation are aligned with best practices and accreditation requirements.
  • Lead the Court Ordered Evaluation and Treatment (COE/COT) processes for Polara Health in the acute and subacute settings, while at the same time partnering with the outpatient providers to assure appropriate care based on individual client/patient needs. These duties will include testifying in court and participating in other related duties (e.g. meetings with legal entities, working with community stakeholders, etc.).
  • Actively participate and help lead clinical documentation, preauthorization, denial, and Certificate of Need (CON) processes assuring timely success.
  • Monitor 24/7 provider coverage schedules to assure adequate staffing of facilities.
  • Be the voice of the inpatient providers in settings where appropriate, while at the same time supporting all senior leadership decisions that may affect inpatient operations.
  • Partner with the Outpatient Medical Director to assure the inpatient and ambulatory practices are aligned with Polara Health goals.
  • Member of the Polara Health Medical Group Council and attend the Medical Staff Committee.
  • Maintain Polara Health Medical Staff membership.


Qualifications

Education
  • Graduation from an accredited medical school recognized by the Arizona medical boards (MD or DO). Completion of an accredited residency in Psychiatry.
  • Board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
  • Active Arizona license to practice medicine.
  • Active DEA certificate.
  • Eligible for Polara Health Medical Staff membership.


Experience
  • One (1) year of prior experience in a physician leadership role.
  • An advanced degree or training in leadership and administration a plus
