Core Functions:
- Serve as Deputy Coordinator for Title IX and ADA and a member of the civil rights team
- Serve as certified Investigator for civil rights concerns and perform this duty as required
- Maintain certifications on a biannual basis with ATIXA
- Remain abreast of all current federal policy and any forthcoming revisions and expansions.
- Support students in processing applications for accommodation and assists faculty in providing approved accommodation.
- Support informing the campus academic accommodation processes relating to students.
- Advise students with academic accommodations and those within the equity resolution process with non-academic advising each semester.
Background/Expertise:
Required Qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree is required OR at least eight (8) years of directly related experience in lieu of a degree.
- At least two (2) years experience in a higher education setting.
- Title IX and ADA compliance certification must be obtained by the end of the first year and maintained throughout employment.
- Knowledge and understanding of academic cultures, rules, and regulations, including knowledge of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
Must have an awareness of disability issues to serve as an advocate for students with disabilities and promote equal opportunity.
- Ability to prioritize big-picture ideas and execute them into tangible actions. Progressive understanding of building and maintaining professional relationships and incorporating best practices in partnership strategies.
- Track record of collaborative partnership amongst university academic departments and leadership.
- Must possess the ability to understand and apply all university and system policies and procedures.
- Must demonstrate good self-management, communication, and problem-solving in interactions with students and university personnel.
- Ability to manage and deliver services to students with disabilities.
- Ability to demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills; outstanding interpersonal skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills; strong professional presence.
- Sound problem-solving abilities, quantitative aptitude, and strategic thinking ability to drive change and impact.
- Intermediate to advanced MS Office computer skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 5+ years of progressive leadership in Title IX and Civil Rights, preferably in a higher education setting.
- Advanced degree in a related field (student affairs, public health, gender studies, human resources, law, multicultural affairs, compliance, criminology, social work, counseling, psychology, higher education administration) preferred
- Knowledge of current and ongoing federal, state, and local civil rights laws and guidelines
- Knowledge of learning theories and strategies is effective for students needing differentiated learning techniques.
- Professional experience in Title IX compliance, ADA compliance, student conduct, sexual misconduct investigation or prevention
- Experience interpreting and applying Title IX, Section 504, and the ADA in a higher education setting.
- Professional experience in identifying, developing, and nurturing partnerships or alliances.
