General Description
Under the supervision of the Coordinator of Instructional Technology, this role supports the effective use and integration of instructional and operational technology across the school division. The Instructional Technology Application Support Specialist provides support for the Canvas learning management system, integrated third-party applications, and the instructional applications that are used division-wide. This position acts as a liaison between the division and providers of instructional and operational applications, helping to manage, implement, and troubleshoot applications. The role also includes creating and maintaining support resources and identifying software solutions to enhance the overall instructional experience.
Essential Job Functions
  • Supports the promotion and daily instructional use of the division's learning management system, to include primary technical support.
  • Serves as a liaison between the division and contracted providers of specific division-wide curricular applications to understand and make recommendations about application settings, updates, and changes in functionality, and to troubleshoot and resolve large-scale issues impacting application performance.
  • Serves as a liaison between the division and contracted providers of division-wide curricular applications to troubleshoot and resolve large-scale issues impacting application performance.
  • Creates and updates support resources for division-wide applications housed on the school division's Application Hub site.
  • Regularly reviews available quantitative and qualitative data related to student use and engagement within instructional applications and makes recommendations about continued use; this may include school visits.
  • Considers intended division use of instructional applications, anticipates challenges, and provides proactive solutions.
  • Supports instructional technology use for the division's Summer programs.
  • Regularly communicates with school-based instructional designers and other stakeholders responsible for professional learning, serving as the primary point of contact for instructional technology in schools and helping to determine professional learning needs related to instructional technology.
  • Provides support to school-based instructional designers to ensure Technology Standards are carried out according to the CCPS Technology Master Plan, which is aligned to the division strategic plan, the state technology plan, and the profile of a Virginia graduate.
  • Provides support for special division-level technology projects and initiatives, as requested.
  • Supports the implementation and maintenance of the school division's digital citizenship curriculum and associated resources.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Budgetary Responsibility:

Report Preparation:
As requested by the Coordinator of Instructional Technology.

Equipment Operation:
Use of a computer, multimedia production applications, presentation technology, general office equipment, and other specific equipment related to assigned areas.

Work Direction/Supervision:
Works under the direct supervision of the Coordinator of Instructional Technology

Decision Making:
Completes majority of work independently with guidance from the Coordinator of Instructional Technology.

Formal Policy-Setting Responsibilities:
Makes recommendations to the Coordinator of Instructional Technology, as requested.

Physical Demands:

Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to use a telephone, to enter data into a computer terminal; to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear, understand speech and speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly at normal levels indoors and on the telephone. Physical agility to bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, walk and reach overhead.

Work Environment:
Duties performed primarily in an office setting, and potentially occasional school environments.. The noise level in the primary work environment is quiet to moderate.

Qualifications
Considerable knowledge of instructional technology, of blended and personalized learning pedagogy, and of learning management systems from the end user and administrative perspective. Demonstrated proficiency in diagnosing and resolving day-to-day problems with technology and with the Google productivity suite of applications. Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively with diverse groups, and to communicate effectively both in writing and orally. Demonstrated skill in instructional coaching, in problem-solving, in working under pressure, and in understanding and empathizing with end users and their unique instructional application needs.
Requirements
Must hold a valid Virginia teaching license. 3 or more years of teaching experience in a K-12 setting is required,
