Instructor/Assistant Professor of Computer Science and Information Technologies
Frostburg State University's Department of Computer Science and Information Technologies seeks applications for a full-time, tenure-track, Instructor/Assistant Professor of Computer Science and Information Technologies. This is a full-time, 10-month faculty position with teaching, service, and professional development responsibilities to begin in Fall 2025. Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications; University System of Maryland benefits package included.
The Department offers four undergraduate degrees in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Information Technology, and Cybersecurity and Information Assurance. Our new interdisciplinary minor in Data Science started in the Fall of 2024. These four undergraduate programs have approximately 300 majors. An accelerated, applied graduate program - M.S. in Applied Computer Science with the option of a database concentration - has more than 70 majors.
The Department is dynamic and fluid, with a passion for Computer Science education. For example, the department recently implemented an interdisciplinary Data Science Minor to ensure a competitive edge for all students earning the minor. In addition, we are launching a new program at an additional location and considering a new Artificial Intelligence (AI) program that fits our student population. The Department has excellent physical resources, including five student labs in the state-of-the-art Gira Center for Communications and Information Technology building. We also have the SPARK Innovation lab co-managed by professors and students. Finally, the Department has a vibrant and collegial environment where new ideas on Computing Sciences, pedagogy, curriculum, and student engagement are encouraged and welcomed.
Responsibilities: The successful candidate's primary responsibility is teaching undergraduate and graduate computing courses, such as Secure Databases, Security and Risk Management, Project Management, and service courses. The department's flexibility allows faculty to teach in additional areas of expertise and interest, such as Cybersecurity, Data Science, the Internet of Things (IoT), AI, and emerging technologies.

Minimum Qualifications: The successful candidate must hold a doctorate from a regionally accredited university in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field required for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor. ABD candidates with a firm completion date may be considered for appointment at the rank of Instructor with the requirement that the candidate finish the doctoral degree within the first year of employment.
The ideal candidate should demonstrate a broad background in the application of computer science, cybersecurity, and information technology and possess strong skills in student-centered learning environments. They should have a solid knowledge base in computing curricula and pedagogical best practices for computer science education.
The candidate should also have experience teaching a wide range of computing courses, which may include Secure Database, Security Policy and Risk Management, Foundations of Computer Science, Project Management, Computer Ethics, and various levels of programming.
Additionally, preference will be given to candidates with several years of experience teaching 12-13 credits per semester at both undergraduate and graduate levels, and in face-to-face, blended, and online modalities, managing student clubs and organizations, and advising undergraduate students. Experience coaching student teams in competitions such as Capture the Flag (CTF), programming competitions, or other related events is highly desirable.
